Its a funny thing for me. I got to play around with several different decks today, and evey time I see this head unit I would love to have it. Alpine's look so good, but unfortantly I can't buy a deck solely on looks. This is nice deck though. I am sold though on Excelon's. Played with a couple of Pioneer's as well SWEET! Anyway, the deck you are looking to get, you should be happy with .

I have the same hu, it works great with the i-pod. I may upgrade to a pioneer for the eq ability in the near future.

MP3 is a compressed format. They take a song and shrink it to make the file smaller. When you do this you loose sound quality. Some people can notice this difference, others, and I would say a large majority of others, cant tell or dont care.

dude i have 9856.. it sounds really good.. you jus have to hook it up with alpine kce-422i and you are good to go

SQ from MP3's are so close to CD quality that its almost not even noticeable. That is also assuming that the mp3 bitrate is 320kbps. Regardless, as long as your mp3's have a bitrate above 192kbps it will still sound good. If you plan on using your ipod, go for the 2007 Pioneer's. You can buy them at best buy and most online stores now. The 6900UB comes with the ipod adapter and i believe its only $200 or so online. It looks 100x nicer than any of the newer Alpine's in my opinion and it will offer a bit more tweakability and ease of use. Once you buy a nice Pioneer you'll have a really hard time switching to anything else.
