What's the right way to manage a head unit

There is two way to turn off the head unit ....

    1. Start the car and start the stereo

    2. Start the car *ignition* and the stereo will start automatic because before you shut down the car for the last time you didn't shut the stero down.

whats the right way so keep you stereo safe for long time? thanks guys

you guys mean i don't matter if turn on by the ignition or just by off button right?
I though that turn it on by ignition COULD damage the unit
