Help me out. Alpine DVA-9861 vs. Eclipse CD5000

Stage 1 of my SQ system is going to be the HU. I have it narrowed down to the Pioneer Premier 880PRS, and the Eclipse CD5000

The Eclipse has a cool little NAV feature...Cooly useless when living in a small town of only 86,000 people.

What would you pick of those two and why? Or if you have another suggestion I'm all ears (eyes).

Hmmmm, I am not fond of either unit really but the eclipse is definitely a little nicer. I would personally recommend one of the higher end Kenwood eXcelon units or possibly a alpine cda-9855 or 9853.

I was looking at the 9855 but didn't have the funds last year and now I can't find it anywhere since it's last years model. I don't trust eBay all that much.

As far as I'm concerned that's worse than eBay. At least eBay sometimes gives a warranty if it's new.

If you're really serious about SQ then why not check out the Pioneer Premier 880PRS.

I'm not sure of the EQ in the Eclipse and Alpine but I'm sure they don't come close to the eq in the 880. The 880 has dual left and right 16 band graphic EQs. The 880 also has a much better pre out section than the Alpine. Not to mention not too many people have much confidence in Alpine's latest line, not even Alpine fans.

The Eclipse CD5000 is much closer to the 880 but I still give the edge to the 880. The Eclipse does have a good preout section and good sound. The 880 does have more control however. Not to mention a 3-way active network mode for going active.

Not to mention the 880PRS is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more **** than either the Alpine or Eclipse.

First of all the preout voltage between the 880 and the Eclipse is so little that you would NOT notice a difference so don't even consider that when weighing the 2 against each other. Pre out voltage has nothing to do with SQ. Pre out voltage just dictates how high or low you will set your gains at. The higher the voltage the lower you'll set your gains on the amps. So unless you have older (noisey) amps you will NOT hear a difference.

The 7 band EQ in the Eclipse is a Parametric EQ and is much more flexible than a graphic EQ. However it is ONLY 7 bands but sometimes, depending on your vehicle could be good enough to get a good response curve.

Like I said earlier, the 880 is dead ****.

I drive a 2005 F-150 regular cab but there's more room than any regular cab made if that means anything.

Looks means some to me, but not as much as SQ. The Eclipse is plenty ****.

You like the look of the Eclipse?? It looks like an outfield fence at a minor league baseball game. Too much lettering and clutter. But to each his own.

Well, I wouldn't mind it being in my truck if it gives me the best SQ without going into the $1000 HUs, let's put it that way.
