Higher preout voltage= less gain on the amp
Less gain= less distortion
less distortion= good stuff

hmm guess I didnt know that, because at low volume and low gain like 1/4 I have gotten distortion, guess clipping comes from excessive high and low?

ok gotcha. back on subject. Bottomline the higher the volts on your preouts the less you need to turn your amps gain up to get your desired output your after which will create less stress and problems.

You can still have distortion w/o clipping. Only way to find out is by using a distortion analyzer, but unless you got thefor it. Just use an oscope.

2volt pre outs will work fine for daily driver systems, I have even heard some pretty nice sounding systems with 1.5volt pre outs on the HU.

yes I have 2v pre-outs on my head unit and it sounds fine. Just set your gains accordingly.

Well I was just wondering because I'm going to be buying my first aftermarket HU soon and it has 4V preouts, which I thought was a nice plus, and I was just wondering how much of a plus it is.
