    Corvette custom stereo installation

I am starting to look at installing a custom stereo system in my 01 Coupe and wanted to get some advice from those who have done it. I was considering installing subs in the two outer storage compartments in the hatch but was unsure of the cubic volume of airspace. Also, would I have to fabricate an enclosure with fiberglass or can I just install the speaker in the compartment as is? Any other tips/advice would be appreciated.

    Elaborate please

"we did a horn/6.5 mb in kicks with 2 kicker L7 8's in my friend's father in laws 99 vette turned out pretty sweet and the horns take out the road noise even when gittin on it ."

It's been a while since I have been "in the know" on car audio. Am I correct in understading you put 6 1/2" MB Quartz speakers? What do you mean "horns"?

    Kicker L7 8's = 8 inch subs, but what's special about the L7 model?

Where did you mount the amps?

Is the dash opening a 1 1/2 din size?

    Thanks.

hlcd is a speaker type, mb= mid bass and the L7 are square 8" subs that go into a small box.(.5cft) the amp is in a false floor in back. any 3 channel config would work . be it a 4 channel 5 or 3 his is an old xtant
    CS1.6 6.5" 150W 2 or 4 Ohms 90dB 45Hz - 20kHz

as far as the headunit it was already in there (kenwood excelon dry deck), he had it done in indy (had me do the rest after he saw what they do and cost vs what i do and cost lol) it seems to me it was a larger opening (than a din) all i did was hook up 2 sets of rca's and the remote lead. was pretty basic only time portion involved was the kicks and false floor took about 2 days 3/4's of that was letting the 'glass dry. the horns go under the dash only thing i did there was get black grill cloth and glue it around the horn mouth. the amp had all the x over and eq settings on it so it was a simple package ..the xovers for the horns are under the false floor too thats the only bad thing but all you gotta do is set the attenuation before you tuck them. the woofer box is a wedge done ontop the false floor all the way to the back..i knocked them out of phase with the fronts to bring the bass upfront. tell you the truth its simple and i bet it could do very well in a sq comp only thing is he isnt into that.

Thanks for the info, if you don't mind me asking, how much did the horns set you back? I haven't found any pricing on them yet.

    Re: Corvette custom stereo installation

the outer compartments in the rear have very little Airspace (less than .5 Cu Ft with the driver installed) Alternatively, most C5 owners (including myself) opt to use the center storage compartment area with a stealthbox. (this will give you between 1-1.4 Cu Ft airspace)

Somthing that's often over looked when installing an aftermarket sound system is sound deadening material. This is especially helpful with corvettes. I'm going to be using a dynamat extreme bulk kit but other options include spray on, and liquid deadeners.

I will be installing my system in early january once all the componets arrive. i'll be sure to take pics
