Just remember that going active you're going to have to run one speaker per channel, so bridged power is pretty meaningless
Other than that; as req said, you'll need something that will allow you to bandpass your mids and highpass your tweeters (then lowpass your subs if you are going to also run them through the active xover). Coustic XM6 is a great unit for the price. Pretty much what all the "budget" DIY'ers use. Just be sure to find something that uses pots for the frequency settings and not those switches that can only be set to predetermined frequencies. Also make sure that the xover you choose will allow you to obtain the xover points you are wanting to use.
An external EQ isn't necessary, but helpful
