Going Active....

Looking for help from some of the SQ people or People who are experienced with active xover setups.

My plan:
Adire Audio Extremis Mids (To be fiberglassed in the doors)
Vifa 1" Neodymium Tweeter (suggested to me as a good match for the Extremis by Adire)

Currently, I have a Phoenix Gold 400.4 It gives me 230 x 2 rms @4ohms bridged as the birthsheet states.

I need to know what else I need to make this setup a reality. Obviously an xover, do I need an external EQ? Some specific suggestions would help as well...I'm looking for something that will be good quality and get the job done (NO extreme audiophile...expensive stuff needed ).

i got a crossover for you man-$30 shipped its a memphis 16-cx25a. although i cannot find any info on it anymore i assure you its a good crossover. i only actually used it in an sq set-up for less than 2 months--then i traded in the sq for sql and changed everypiece of equipment i had.

your gonna need to bandpass the mids and hp the tweet. eq would be nice, but your HU should have some of that in it.

active with that DIY set is a good way to go for sure.

Just remember that going active you're going to have to run one speaker per channel, so bridged power is pretty meaningless

Other than that; as req said, you'll need something that will allow you to bandpass your mids and highpass your tweeters (then lowpass your subs if you are going to also run them through the active xover). Coustic XM6 is a great unit for the price. Pretty much what all the "budget" DIY'ers use. Just be sure to find something that uses pots for the frequency settings and not those switches that can only be set to predetermined frequencies. Also make sure that the xover you choose will allow you to obtain the xover points you are wanting to use.

An external EQ isn't necessary, but helpful

so pretty much going active is just using your own crossover for your different components (midbass, midrange, tweeter, etc.) and not using the passive crossover that comes with a comp set? if so i have been active all this time and didn't realize it. the way i gather it, if you got an eclipse deck you can go active.

I have an amp thatll do 210 X 2 and 75 X 2 for the tweets.... but it's chrome... for now...

I'm also now going to need suggestions on an amplifier that will properly power the TWO Extremis Mids (8ohm) as well as the TWO Vifa Tweeters (6ohm I do believe). Thanks!
