Anyone ever tried this install? (8" subs in rear deck)

I have a 1980 cadillac... i currently have two 6x9s in the rear deck, but rather than putting two more 6x9s (like most people do with their old cars... put four 6x9s in the rear deck) i want to put two 8s in it. has anyone had any experience doing this? i just thought it would be nice to know if someone else has at least tried to do it before.

    Thanks
    ~Lorenzo

yes. ive seen it done, and it works fine (if you have the space) just make sure your 8's are good with IB applications.

yeah well you wouldn't have any pictures of it would you? i'm trying to get some ideas on how to do it... i won't be able to put them flat (facing straight up) because the rear deck is only 8 inches long, so i'll have to put them at a slight angle, facing slightly toward the front of the car. that means i'll probably end up making a fiberglass "lip" for the sub to lean on at the back. doesn't matter what it looks like through the rear window... the window's tinted too dark for anyone to see anyway

hehe that would look pretty sweet but the whole reason i'm going with 8s, is because i already have two 15s in my trunk, but the old cadillacs are built like tanks: there's about an inch of steel and insulation between the cab and the trunk, so i decided the only subs i could fit IN the cab, would be the 8s (which would go on the rear deck), so they have to be facing into the cab

it will. just rear fire the sub- stick the butt (hehe the magnet\motor) thru the mounting hole, then make a fiberglass box for the front of the speaker mounted below the rear deck, this way you dont have to have them all weird and crooked, and they can have a box, and itl be origional.

ill draw up a picture tomrrow if ya wantt.

    right.

req: i was going to make little "pods" that stuck down that you could see when you open the trunk. i also thought about, like you said, either porting the "box" through into the cab (so the port leads to the cab), or, as you mentioned, inverting them, so the magnet's sticking up. both are worth a try i suppose. just wanted to get some ideas at this point

whatever you go with, make sure that when you play your music that the excursion doesn't make your speaker bang against something! Happened to my sister and ruined pair of 8"s

yeah, but the only women that are in my back seat are usually naked and lying down, so that's the least of my worries... although thanks for mentioning it, i hadn't thought about it.
