    Orion 2500d cutting out...help please...

    Ok, so here's the problem...

i just put in my 18XXX and Orion 2500d...everything is all hooked up. I put my subwoofer out on my alpine HU on 12 out of 15. I put the volume @ 26 out of 35. Reasonable settings....i turn up the gain...and after a certain point...the amplifier cuts off...no sound. I turn the gain all the way back down...i get sound again. I have a HO 200 amp alternator. Suggestions?! peace

i dont know maybe it has something to do with your subwoofer at 12. i mean i run mine either at 5 with no eq or at 0 when its eq'd. my only guess is that the amp is tryin to put out more power than it can when the hu sub level is set to 12 and therefore shuts off to protect itself.

    Sounds like an overcurrent problem.
You wired it correctly, right ?

You're probably overloading the amp, is your car turned on or off when it cutsoff, I have a 1200D and it cuts out if I turn the volume up too loud when the car is off. Or maybe it's a weird Ohm load??

sounds like a wiring problem, check the speaker wire inside the box make sure everything is very tightly secure. this or the ground point sounds like the problem, but since u had a working system before it seems more like it would be the speaker wire.

Re: Orion 2500d cutting out...help please...

Not a wiring problem, the Orion (not according to factory) is .5Ohm stable, people have run them like that with zero problems.

The real problem is probably the electrical system. first you are going to need at least 2 batteries as the backbone to the system, you alt will be able to charge them up no problem and the batteries will keep the amp alive at car's idle. Next, take into account it is a 200a HO alt, the higher the output of the alt generally yields a much lower output than normal at idle, so you are simply starving your amps for current.

i would be willing to bet if you tuned it while revving the engine you wouldn't have the same problem.

Re: Orion 2500d cutting out...help please...

some amps will run below there recommended ohm load all day long, but due to impedence changes, some music at high volumes will put the amp into protect.

try a few different songs, try various testtones while rolling up the volume. also, try getting the sub a little warm and then playing some music. if these things help you get a little more volume out of the amp before it cuts off, this is more than likely your problem.

as mentioned previously, if you have it wired below 1ohm, it is important to keep the voltage up otherwise the amp will go into protect on music.

Re: Orion 2500d cutting out...help please...

Well, i have a second battery. I have a 200 amp alternator, red top under the hood, and a yellow top in the rear. The 2500d has dual inputs for power and ground as you may know, i have 2 runs of 4 awg for the power, each fused with 100 amp ANL fuses. I also have 2 runs of 4awg for the gnd obviously. The fuse going from my red top, to my yellow top on the 1/0 awg i have is fused with a 250 amp ANL fuse. NONE of the fuses have ever blown...i am obviously getting significant voltage drop...but i don't know why...i THOUGHT i had a pretty stable electrical system...it's pissing me off. I had 2 avionixx 1200.2 amplifiers on this same electrical system with NO voltage drops ever below 14v, granted those amp are VERY efficient. peace

i've got 2 yellow tops and a 150a alt with zero dimming, so something is wrong.

when you do your voltage testing, are you doing it at idle all the time or does it dimm bad while driving as well

When i'm driving around...sometimes i just see the stock voltage monitor (not digital) drop, the amp will even shut off sometimes @ higher volumes. I doubt this thing is putting out anywhere NEAR 2500 watts.

no clue then man, either the alt is dying or something is wired wrong.
