    150 Possible with SEALED 13w7?

You guys think that 150 db is possible with a single 13w7 in the ideal sealed enclosure getting about 1000-1200 watts?

If not, what would something like that generally do in a truck cab?

ahh idk about 150 in a sealed box... you might just be able to do it ported if you bust out the damplifier and the install is perfect. well.... i shouldnt say that... really.... anything is possible.

    back at it...

Re: 150 Possible with SEALED 13w7?

150 is possible with a 13W7. Sealed? Probably not. It's all in the install, but you'd really need a very carefully tuned ported box, a good amp (something pushing around 2kw I'd estimate), and of course plenty of sound deadener. Even then, I'd say high 140's are more likely with everything being perfect.

However, this is one of those things where if you have to ask, the answer is no. You're not going to see 150db in a single-sub truck setup. I'm not sure what sort of truck you're looking at putting a 13W7 into, but even with a sealed enclosure, that's no small box. It's a beastly sub, and unless you have an extended cab truck with the back seat removed, I don't know where you'd put it.

Line up the sub directly with a port the same diameter, wind it back and forth around your bed until it's about 13 - 15 feet long, you've made a horn subwoofer! You're guaranteed an extra 10-12 dbs from the sub, enough to put you over the edge into that 150 mark!!

Not on the new TL sensor that's for sure.
It would require a lot of tuning even with 2 13W7's would do 150 on the new TL in a ported box!

But yea, i'm sure in the right hands you could do a 50 sealed with a 13w7.

    Anything's possible.....

Some kid beat me in my class by 6dB at the last comp by going to his local shop and having them throw a "12W7 in a pre-fab sealed box and the classic 1000/1" setup in his Blazer....he did a 144.

Re: 150 Possible with SEALED 13w7?

I know that this question was pretty generalized...

The truck is an extended cab pickup truck, and sealed was what I wanted to do. I know that ported gets more SPL, but GENERALLY how much louder is ported? I heard that it's usually around 1-3dB's (I heard this from Caraudioforum.com and this forum a year ago). Another issue is my lack of knowledge on how big of a box to build and how to port it and all that. I tried to learn, but I'm a bit slow in the porting department and something is missing. I figured that sealed is better for SQ anyway. Also, I heard that a truck's cab resonates the sound very well...thus adding more SPL.

My goal is SQL. I used to own a JBL 1200.1 amp (still have the amp) and 2 eD 10k's. They got pretty loud and sounded great, but they are done with now. I just was never really happy with the SPL they offered since day one. By the way, I plan on using Dynamat for the doors and rear wall where the subwoofer sits.

I'm looking for this to hit hard and be loud where I don't have the desire to crank my stereo up all the way, and be left unsatisfied. I'm not looking to drive around neighborhoods and wake everyone, it's just so I have the capability to boom at times when I desire during the day.

Also, I decided that a Brahma or XXX is out of the question, I want to go mainstream this time. ID MAX 12 is something else I was looking at, but it didn't seem like it would really be up to par with the W7, although I am not saying it is not an amazing subwoofer.

may i ask why you want to spend extra money on an equal, or less quality piece of equipment?

porting will get you MUCH louder than you would guess. my setup basically doubled (by my ears)... (look at sig) going from ~.6 sealed to ~1.2@37hz ported.

im sure if you kept those 10"s and ported. it would be very loud. but if you wanted to get a 12 or a 15, you better know what your doing and not need those back seats. cuz its gonna be taken up. but. if you got a 12 XXX and gave it 1~2kw of power and port it at 33hz with 2~4 cubes. im sure you will be quite surprised. but listning to your knowledge level, it does not seem like you could build it.

so go pay somone to install it for you.

JL Audio is not of equal or less quality. It is recognized as one of the TOP name brands on that market, as I'm sure you know. None of the "Internet Companies" are as up to par with it. I'm not going cheap here. I'm sure they are good, but I don't think that risking $300-500 is worth it, without demo-ing it, or having the recognition that a company who charges that much for a subwoofer should have. Whether anyone agrees/disagrees with me or not, or tries to flame, I don't care.

The reason why I'm not going with RE or Adire is because I want to listen to a sub before I spend the money on it. Every sub that I have listened to has a different sound, and I'm very picky on what I like. ALMOST everyone on this forum and CAF seem to be RE/Adire clones. That's not good enough for me. I've heard the HiFonics/XXX or Brahma suggestions more times than I can count, and I bet at least half of those recommendations are from people who never heard the setup before, or the subwoofer.

As far as box building, I am more than capable of it. I posted that the porting portion is what I am unsure about. It is new to me, and I have little knowledge on it. I've asked questions, and haven't gotten any worthwhile answers.

Obviously, If I put a 12-15" subwoofer in my truck, I know I'll loose my seats. No problem at all.

Installing? That's easy. When did I mention not knowing how to install?

Re: 150 Possible with SEALED 13w7?

if i'm not mistaken the jl GTI hit 150 on the AC with 2 13w7 with a 1000/1 on each. i seen this car in superstreet which was the pre-runner to the civic back when japanese cars first came to america that they cut the rear section out and made it a super short 2 seater that looked like a clown car. maybe if you put a 13 w7 in a ported box tuned to the resonant freq of the car which for a car that small would be close to a SQL tune of 30-35 hz put it on a zapco C2K 9.0 and use a lot of cement and sounddeading you might get 150 on the AC with that.
