    Diamond Audio setup

One of the the local shops around where I love is super respected and known for there high end work. I went in there and got a estimate.. i spoke to the owner and he swears by Diamond Audio. I went in there thinking 2 12" Diamond TDX, but was quickly turned away by the price of the woofers, and having to purchase 2 1200W amps, so he recommended 2 12" Diamond M6's, and a Diamond 1200W X 1 D5 amp for my extra-cab ranger, and a custom sealed box to fit the back.. a few kids at my school have this setup from the same shop and they all sound very good, but I was wondering your guys opinions. this is the only shop around where I live that I am willing to let touch my truck. after seeing his work, its all 1st class. After looking at the price quote, i think everything is pretty fairly priced. he offeres life time warranty because of being a authorized dealer for Diamond Audio, and a lifetime install warranty. If anything goes wrong, I take it back to him. If a sub blows, I go back to him and he switches it out on the spot.

After searching, I could find some info but nothing of what i was really looking for. what do you guys know about this setup? any information would be greatly appreciated..

    thanks alot.

    Re: Diamond Audio setup

I know of many people running the same set up as well- make sure you get the new redesigned M6 mkII subs- as the older ones had many quality issues- I like them best as they provide solid SQ in a 0.7-0.8 cu/ft and they still move insane amounts of air- a solid sub

    Re: Diamond Audio setup

i run dual m6s on 1200 watts and it sounds awesome. i do have the original models though not the mkII ( havent had any problems yet) the only difference is theyre ported but i actually ran one sealed in 1.0cu ft on 800 watts for about a month and it had great sq with pretty good spl for being sealed.

    Re: Diamond Audio setup

thanks for the imput.. i just checked and they will be mkII on the quote.. the box will be sealed. keep in mind this is going in a ranger, so the cab space is very tiny even though its a extra cab so it should be plenty loud and great sound quality. I am pretty stoked, and can't wait.

thanks for you help, and anybody else with any input would be awesome.

    thanks guys,

    -Cam

It should be a nice SQ set up, Diamond makes nice stuff. You should enjoy it... but how much is all this stuff going to cost you?

    Re: Diamond Audio setup

i personally have that same amp, the d5 1200.1 it is a pretty serious amp when it comes to power though. at 14 volts it puts out roughly 1400 watts. it was enough to blow two tdx's to pieces. that is a great amp, but as far as the subs, i have had pretty bad luck with all of diamonds speakers. they sound great, but they dont seem to last too long. i have gone through four tweeters, two 5X7"s, two tdx's. supposedly they have been redesigning their crossovers a lot lately and they are pretty touchy. as far as the subs, that is just a power issue. too much at that voltage.

My dealer was running TDX's and was blowing them as well, many customers same issues-

Turns out there a quality control issue with the voice coils on the TDX's- the company that makes them is not winding them right, turning into a discrepancy in impedance readings on the coils- we tested two brand new ones and one read 1.8ohms while the other 1.2ohms,on the same sub, both same rated impedance subs- some amps are forgiving (like the D5 1200.1) and eventually dam,age the woofer, but in some cases it has damaged certain amps.....I good friend is on his 3rd set of 12's and 2nd 1200.1 and is baffled how he keeps blowing them
