    install cost

well a friend of a friend wants me to do a "custom" install in his 96 civic....not really custom but sumtin organized...gunna build a amp rack the length of his trunk w/ 2 amps distro box ect...im gunna have to install a 4 ch amp wich means i have to run new wires from front to back ect...im gunna use remnents of wire i have to finsh the install....that also goes for left over carpet and wood as well.im gunna buy all the corrct connection fittings and stuff to properly install right...right now its install all ****** like..also have to put existing 2 subs in a new box...

what would be a appropreite labor cost for this type of project..it would take sum time to do everything stelthy...ya no...want to do it right so hes happy

    install: 4 ch amp
run new wires front to back
    build rack
    carpet rack
    mount amps
    hide all wires
    make all connections CLEAN
    put subs in box

remember just labor i allready have supply cost

    thanks alot guys

Charge him hourly. Or calculate your supply costs and add a percentage. Most shops charge around $50.00 an hour.

    Re: install cost

wow that seems like it would be alot..i'd prob make like 1000 bucks in that case.....i was thinken flat rate....does 150-200 sound good -labor- ?
actually i should go with him to like bb and see what they would do it for and depending on thats price i could charge him half.....thanks for the input but i highly dout he'd want to spend that kinda cash...but i'll check with him after all the advice i get and see what we can come up with...thx again

    Re: install cost

That would cost you a ton if you had it done at a shop...so i say, charge a flat rate of like 250...maybe 300? I am doing all my work myself, and i would pay myself that well

    Re: install cost

Yeah, flat rate of like 200 seems fair. I know a shop that charged a guy over $1400 to install a stereo. Said it took them TWO HOURS to install RCAs, which = 140 and change they said. Sick ****.

    Re: install cost

since it's a friend, $200 seems fair. If it was for someone else, $300.

If it's a good friend I'd say $100-$150, if it's just someone you know or something $150-$200

    Re: install cost

If it's a friend friend I say just do it for supply cost, I mean really.. what kind of person charges a good friend to do that. I know my friend gave up a lot of his time to help me wire the subs and amp on my first install. I'm going to be building a box and running wires all for material cost for my friend. Me and a friend are also going to install in to another friend's car for material cost.

Now if it's somebody you just know like from school or something I'd say $100-$200 would be fair depending on how well you know them.

    Re: install cost

As I stated in another post..if I had bought these components from the installer I could easily get it done for $400. But bring your own components and not only do they charge $75 an hour but do a ****** job with no class..Not Eveyone..but the cheap guys will screw you. But I hate to say it..I do not trust friends either. Leaving my truck to a Friend with a "stereo" hobby (not a pro) is like leaving your Drunk girlfriend at your friends house overnight in his room.

    Re: install cost

I think $225 or so. BB won't do that much work for $225. If this guy is expecting you to do it for next to nothing, let him go elsewhere.

#2 If and when something ever goes wrong with his system, regardless of who is at fault(you, him, equipment), guess who will be expected to troubleshoot and solve the problem?
