    Epicenter

does the audiocontrol epicenter really make your system louder or is it really no better than the 13 band eq in my pioneer deh860mp and the bass boost on my hifonics. a bunch of people who reviewed it on sounddomain says it helped but i wanted more input on it.

yes the epicenter does make your subs hit harder and makes the bass sound deeper but it also does add alot of extra "sounds" (cant think of the proper word right now) to your music

    Re: Epicenter

It digitally restores sound that is rolled off in the recording process in the lower octaves, thus it adds depth and in some cases SPL.

    Yeah, whatever

Just as an FYI; Bumping up EQ bands and running a ton of bass boost is not a good idea.

I believe it does generate 1 octave lower...or something like that.

    Re: Epicenter

I know that it isn't like i go around with everything maxed out. i never turn the boost on the amp above 1/4 or the eq above +2. so it seems like it wouldn't make say a sine wave play louder but would make actual music louder espically mp3 have deeper bass. A local shop is selling one for 170 (i could probally talk them down since there trying to get rid of a bunch of stuff, oh yeah they started carrying RE, they had a MT,SX and RE but no XXX)

    Re: Epicenter

You can't compare the Epicenter to an EQ, because it's nothing of the sort.
An EQ boosts or cuts particular frequencies, changing the overall frequency response spectrum.

The Epicenter completely fabricates "fake bass", seemingly out of the air - bass that doesn't even exist in the recording, yet goes along with the music perfectly.

They accomplish this by isolating a particular band of frequencies, mathematically dividing them in half (creating new frequencies exactly one octave lower than those actually in the recording), and blending the "fake bass" back into the music at a level that you control with the little knob.

It's not built to make your subs louder, it's built to make certain songs contain bass that otherwise wouldn't have - making them louder on those songs.

And you can just do funny stuff with it too...
Maybe it's just me, up here, where country music isn't popular with too many who are shy of their 40th birthdays (and that includes me)... but there's something really funny about playing country music, with the epicenter engaged, creating boom-worthy, bass-CD quality levels of sub output using "your father's music".
    Silly?

It's a fun toy, I love my original Epicenter... and while i'm not a fan of the Epic160's dash mount requirement (I've got my Epicenter knob integrated in, stealth), the included voltmeter and dB meter can be both fun and useful as well.
