    Newb looking for advice

As said above, I'm looking for suggestions for some audio.

I've got a 96 Honda Civic Coupe that is bone stock (audio wise) besides a Kenwood eXcelon X459 HU. I'm looking just for some nice clean (kinda loud when needed) sound. I am guessing 6 1/2 components up front, 6X9's in the rear deck, amp and 10" sub will suffice. I was also thinking maybe a 12" sub vs the 10".

I am looking to keep the majority of useful trunk space. I would like to stay as economical as possible, but I understand that I need to spend some kinda money. Just name some decent brands and models so I can ask around for prices.

Thanks for your help and I was turned onto this site by one of your members, but I don't know his member name.

Here is where I spend most of my time, Clubcivic

    Audio List:
    Kenwood eXcelon X459
    MB Quart 6.5 components
    Orion 6X9's
    Directed 5 channel amp
10" Kicker Comp Sub w/ ported box

If there are any NJ Civic owners here, post up at Clubcivic.com and tell'em 96greencivic sent you.

I would say, for the sub, get an alpine type R 12"..... requires very little air space, u could keep a ton of your trunk. As for your speakers....ask someone else.... good choice on the HU though

    Re: Newb looking for advice

Do you have a budget planned, how much are you looking to spend? How loud is kinda loud? I would look into getting a 4-channel amp, to power a set of components up front and a sub, and run the rear 6x9s or whatever off your deck.

You would need a sub that could be wired to 4-ohms, either a SVC 4-ohm sub, or a DVC 2-ohm sub.

What kind of music do you listen to? If you listen to a lot of music with really low bass, I'd go with a 12, it'll have a better low end, otherwise get a 10.

Thanks for the advice. My cousin is a wholesaler and DEI is one of his newest accounts among many others. He said he wants to get me components by ADS and the amp is by Precision Power. I've never heard of these brands, but since audio is all he sells, I am putting a lot of trust in him. I also know he wouldn't sell me any crap. He used to rep for Rockford, but left them for DEI. I think they offered him more

ADS and PPI make very nice equipment, I would trust your cousin.

Well, I can get all my parts at wholesale cost, so I don't think it will add up to the thousands. I think the most I'm willing to spend is $500 in parts (keep in mind wholesale costs). As for the loud part, just something to get a little bit noticed, other then that no competition. I listen to the radio for the most part, but if I listen to CD's, it's rap. Would you say the sub should be sealed or ported?

I've loved all of the ppi amps I've ever owned. ADS is a really good company.. if you're going to spend that kind of money, check out adire audio kodas, the higher end CDT, Rainbow, and JL XR's..

personally, I hate 6x9's.. well.. rearfill all together.. it just messes up all of the imaging.

make sure you give a price of what you'd like to spend so you can get more feedback

If 6X9's mess up the imaging, what would a good replacement be? Or for the meantime, should I just leave the OEM one's in? One of your members put me onto this site and I must say it's pretty organized and I've already got great informative responses. He said I should just leave the 6X9's alone for now.

    Re: Newb looking for advice

in terms of speakers... the 6x9's in my civic were the first thing I replaced.. then as I got more into audio, putting comps in.. then amping them.. I took out the 6x9's, and I think it just sounds so much better..

music is in 2ch.. not 4 ch... unless you go and get a hu that does 4.1 or 5.1

    Re: Newb looking for advice

I'd just start with a nice pair of components in the doors, with no speakers in the rear. Then if you still think you need rear fill, go from there.

The 6x9s in the rear were the first thing I bought for my system, and now I'm getting rid of 'em.

And for rap music, I would go with a 12" sub, ported.

Hey I have the same HU in my Subaru and it kicks, I would go with Kenwood Excelon amps so you can control them from your HU, just a thought, they also arent too pricy.
