Thinking of putting an Apline CDA9833 receiver with Type S 6-1/2's and Type S 4 x 6's in my truck. Do I need an amplifier or will the head unit be able to provide lound sound with minimal distortion?

an amp is always the way to go, but for many people the head units internal power is sufficient.

No, you don't need a separate amplifier. Odds are that you will be satisfied with the sound you'll get from the head unit alone. Now, if you ever choose to get a set of components, then I definitely recommend getting a separate amplifier. But just for 6.5's and 4x6's, I really don't think you'll need an amp.Originally Posted by Z71Silverado

I think a component system is the way I want to go. I'm not sure if I'm going to get the Alpine SPS-171A or upgrade to the R component system. As far as an amp goes, I looked at the Phoenix GOld Octane - R 5.0:4. Is this of good enough quality, or should I get the Alpine MRV-F340?
I appreciate the feedback so far!
don't be hatin' the coaxialsBut just for 6.5's and 4x6's, I really don't think you'll need an amp.
i've got 125x2 ready to go for the front stage, but haven't hooked it up yet so I can't tell you how much it'll improve the sound. Waiting on my new box and subs to come so I can tackle the install over a weekend.
