Benefits on multiple subwoofers vs 2?

What are the advantages of having let's say 2 18's compared to 4 18's? Let's say they are getting the same power, are their any advantages at all? Maybe more cone area I could understand or maybe more air or whatever. I don't know I'm still learning xD

2 18s to 4 18s might not be much of a difference on the same power but one 18 compared to 2 18s on the same power would be noticeable

Some people believe in cramming more woofer, but I've always been for cramming more enclosure. Like 9 to 10 cubes for 2 low tuned 15s.
