    New system installed, Sound Issues!

Well I finally had all my stuff installed. JL comps powered by jbl 150x2 amp, Pioneer deh-p860mp headunit, image dynamics idq12d4v2 sub powered by a mtx 420 watt amp.

There are so many settings on the headunit I do not know where to start. When I turn the volume control up to about level 3(out of probably 20) the sub overpowers the speakers to a real annoying level. This is when I have the eq on flat or any other setting. I then turn the subwoofer to off and the front component speakers give out no bass whatsoever. Its all highs and very little if any midrange. The previous speakers were 7 year old bose audio 6 1/2 and they had very nice midrange bass. What do I need to do so that the bass does not overpower? I want it to mix in well with everything else. Thanks!

u gotta play a little bit with it. i have been trying to figure out the same with the 8600mp. if u turn the subwoofer off, u wont get that overpowering feeling, but u will still get bass. then just go to the eq and turn up the sub bass a bit. hopefully that helps, u'll get used to it once u start playing w it.

Ok this head-unit has a hella lot of features for shaping the sound. Have you played with the high pass filter setting for the front and rear speakers? It definitely sounds like you need to readjust the gain on at least your sub amp. Have you set them yet?

Gain gain and more gain, LOWER THE F-IN GAIN! And tweak, don't complain just tweak, people always expect **** to sound un-godly right when they hook **** up and when they realize it dosn't sound good they get all discouraged. TWEAK!!!!!!!!!!!

Something tells me that you have your gains all the way up. That head unit goes up to volume 50 or 60, I used to have one. If your sub is overpowering at volume 3 you have a major problem with your gain settings.
