volts = watts/amperes

When buying amps, make sure the nominal voltage is 13.8, not 14.4 volts like most companies do because a car runs at around 13.6-13.9 volts, and be aware that with the car off it only runs at 12 volts. also, for example, if you have say a 75 amp alternator and you have say... 1500 watts for your system, you'll overdraw the alternator by about 34 amperes (1500/13.8 approx. = 108, the amount of amps the system could use, subtract the 75) and that isn't including outlying things like the a.c. and lights, which means you are putting strain on the battery. This will cause dimming of the headlights, so before everything, replace or rewind the alternator.

also, ohm's law, voltage = current X resistance

so for example, if you have your car, and for the sake of ease, all your speakers are at 4 ohms, the current is about 3.45 amps because 13.8 (car's voltage)/ 4 (resistance, also known as impedance) = 3.45 (amount of current in amps)

well, what are you trying to learn?

Heard that if you dont have enough volts running through your system that the amp underpowers. Something that I do not want happening when I set this all up.
