help sony is killing me

No Sony, no matter how good they look. Pioneer is excellent hed unit. Sony's have been known to skip constanly when you turn your subs on.

I wouldn't rush a decision like this because you'll probably end up kicking yourself for acting too quickly.

Newer Sony Xplod are unreliable and have serveral performance issues (skipping, as mentioned). The Pioneer units rarely have reliability issues. I would opt for the 660 without much afterthought.

True that Taycrom. Well said. Forget Sony man, If your going to go with a hed unit, think of either Alpine, Pioneer, or Clarion, 3 of the best right there.

Sony's head units are actually pretty decent. I like them, and I'd buy one without hesitation. The higher end Xplod's sound good to me. Just my opinion though.

In this case though, the 660 (and predecessor, 650/6500) are such great head units. probably one of my favourites ever for value. it's so easy with the oel display and 3d graphics to adjust the sound to your liking, on the fly. plus, pioneers on average are better than sonys. better made, better sq, better overall. not saying sony is bad, but pioneer has the one up in this comparo.

Nothing wrong with either Sony or Pioneer.

Both make awesome decks.

The obtuse ramblings of the official "Sony Hater" crowd here should be taken with a grain of salt. Blanket statements easily get manipulated in the weak minded.

I've had my Sony CDX-M630 in my Tbird going strong with no issues for over a year.

Also have a considerably old(circa 1996) Sony EXCD-21 unit going strong as ever in my Mustang. No problems ever.


Also ran numerous Pioneer's (DEH-P7200, 7300, 9200, 45, etc) none of them ever caused me a problem as well.

It really comes back to just this, both make awesome decks that are loaded with goodies.


In the end it will come down to which deck will offer you the features and versatility that you need from your system.

that sony unit is not that bad... 7 band eq... front rear sub outs... aux input... brushed aluminum face... sub controls... lots of other stuff... it reads skips pretty bad tho... so if u have a disk with lots of scratches i wouldn't try it cuz it'll skip around on it... but then again the pioneer is a good unit too... just research each units features and pick which has what u like

well.. its not bashing sony.. but some true facts.. in other case.. some sony xplode sereis are actually good...

but i had bad expereinced with sony xplode.. single disc HU.. at first its ok.. next the disc reader problem.. got it fix.. now the player cannot resist some shock making it skipping..

after that.. change to pioneer 4600mp series..

well, i`m quite statisfied combo with my HIcomp amp (made under audiovox)..

now its rocks!

but personally between pioneer and sony..
for me... i`ll go for pioneer
