My last system was in 2006, update me on the times!

So when I first turned 16, I was really into car audio as my hobby. I had a 1996 Chevy Blazer and my first system ever was a Concept Sub in a bandpass box and an Autotek amp. Well after doing research and more research I got addicted and ended up buying two e15K's (Elemental Design, who I now know is out of business?!?) and a 1000W amp. Built a custom ported box and ran with that.

After my Blazer I started dropping my audio hobby for more performance. My last system was in my 1994 Mazda RX7 where I made custom fiberglass door pods for Alpine components and a fiberglass enclosure for a 10W7.

Fast forward 6-7 years later and I'm still in performance but I'm looking to get something SMALL in my 2012 Mazdaspeed3 and I need to know what has changed. Back then, all the "mainstream" talked about was the efficiency of the JL Audio W7. The big "underground" names were ED, RE, and DD.

I listen to a mix of everything however mainly EDM. I don't want overpowering bass but I want some kick. I was thinking maybe a ported 8.

    What would be everyone's suggestions?

Go with sundown 8 inch sub and a audio q 1200 watt amp. Both are very affordable and are some of the top brands out now. You will love this setup. Sundown and audio que wich is now called soundqubed.

2-obsidian 15s in sms box 32 htz. 2-ia 20.1 strapped like a boss. 1-xs d2400 and 2 120ah c and d in back. Sky high 0 up and down and all around. Diamond 400/4. Skar comps in doors. Audiopipe super tweets in a pillars. Dp audio 6x9 in boxes above front seats. Memphis deadner. Ladder rack rattles like b*tch.

AQ is a nice choice. If you want something prefab, Alpine makes a pretty sweet 8" Type R that can be had for under 200. Won't hit nearly as hard as a W7, but I've never liked how temperamental those subs are with EQ.

The Dayton HO is a great choice for the budget and doesn't take a whole lot of volume to sound great. Ask @princ3cmo ; but he'll tell you they only sound great in a Camry...

Yep Dayton's are awesome SQ subs with a stunningly low price tag and require very little volume.

    And yes Camrys rule
