I want to hook up a dvc (4ohms on each coil) sub to my amp. My amp isn't 2 ohm stable so from what I understand I can only run it at 8ohms or hook up only 1 voice coil. Is it okay to wire the sub to 8ohms and plug it in?
If I were to do this would it be bad for my amp?
DO NOT use just one voice coil. i have never heard of it hurting an amp running it at 8 ohm,though depending on what amp you have at 8 ohm you wont get very much power out of it
what kind of amp do you have?
yeah what amp isnt two ohm stable?...

Looking to use a rockford 800a2. The sub is a just a 10" p3 so I'm pretty sure it will be getting enough juice at 8ohms.
Would stereo mean hooking up each voice coil to a channel?
yea bridged at 8 ohms you will get like 400 to 500 rms
yep,.... you will most likely to be getting 4-500 watts out of it in doing so, just as you would bridging it to 8. plus, if you blow a coil by chance, you'll still have the low notes to listen to, just not as loudlyQuote:

just run in two ohms on one channel. not really. youll be then running 4 ohms a channel, so more efficient than 2 ohm.
well if you ask any true professional they will tell you to never do that because its a heavier mass for the single coil to move and it can over work it,get hotter faster....so on and so on.you might be right(not trying to say you are wrong) but the guy who told me has been doing car audio for 33 years,those are usually are the people you listen to,you know. lolQuote:
