Well, serious for me anyway. $2,000+ is a lot for a broke college kid. Everything was purchased brand new, refurbished, or b-stock. Just a little FYI on this build. My truck is a regular cab & there were a few factors. First, while this build won't be the loudest it is a complete build. If I'm gonna spend the money I might as well do it right. I realize I could get away without the alternator/battery upgrade. However, I would rather do it right & have almost 0 drop in voltage oppose to letting the voltage dip at full tilt. (I also have a pair of 500w off-road lights & use a generator when camping) I have very little space in my truck & wanted to retain some of the space behind my seats, thus the single 8" setup. Lastly, I'm sure I went over board on the amount of deadeners, but the slightest rattles really irk me.
All in all I was just looking for a well rounded build & I feel I have accomplished that. The only cobcern I have is just how much output will a single 8 on 500w provide. Obviously it isn't gonna bust windows but hopefully it will hit hard & bring a punch like I'm expecting. It really seems like a nice driver & the nest choice for my build.
Anyway, just looking for some feedback. This is the first expensive (for me) build I've ever done. Previous setups:
Kicker L5 10" & 350w Infinity amp, Infinity comps & Audiobahn amp
JL Audio 10w1v2, entry level comps, & 250/1 300/4

in a truck, one 8 on 500w will probably be enough for you, depending on what you are trying to achieve. That's a Lot of deadener, just make sure you put it on right, check out some how to's on here, you should be able to deaden your car the way we all wish we could, put around 10-20sqft per door

I think it will, too. It should be really impressive considering it's a single 8" on 500w.
I have 20sq, MLV, CCF, & butyl rope on each door. Then hit the pillars, double layered the roof, patched flat surfaces of the floor, & had around 20sq ft left to kill the rear area nicely. Then packed all the panels with CCF. I most definitely went overboard spending $900 on electrical & deadener for a 900w system. But, IMO, it will be worth it when my voltage sit over 14v full tilt & my truck is as solid as a rock.
