The Custom Sounds in San Antonio I heard was good, but they charge an arm and a leg for everything.

Here is my take on San Antonio vs Austin. They are indeed different.

Austin: very hip. Strong feel of a college town. The night time party scene is very good, specially if you like live rock music. Considered the most liberal big city in Texas. On average, probably more affluent than San Antonio. Aggressive drivers.

San Antonio: old historic downtown with great nightlife and day life, there is a lot to do an see. Number 1 tourist destination in Texas. Nice big walkable downtown, riverwalk, etc. Big Hispanic population. Big military population. Outside of the downtown the city is very sprawled out. While having the 1/10th population of NYC, the city area is bigger than NYC. I certainly don't like this aspect. There are practically no "dangerous" areas. Very HOT and often humid in the summer. Politically speaking, the city is sort of amorphous, neither red nor blue. San Antonio has some of the most passive drivers in the country (see HERE, kind of funny and 100% true)
