    Wanting to get into the car audio business

    I'm new to the site and hoping someone can help me out with pointing me in the right direction and what to do on how to break into the car audio industry. I've always had in interest in it but never pursued it until now. I'm first wanting to learn the basics and then put them to use of course. Eventually even open a shop and make a living off of it would be IDEAL we all have to eat you know. Even window tinting and car wraps now a days is something to learn if you want to be the biz. I have no prior experience and I've hooked up minor stuff like a car stereo which a monkey could do but I'm really wanting to now the ins and outs.
    so if there is some kind of schooling or pointers anyone can give me it would be awesome.

    Oh and on a side note i live in
    texas fort worth,tx to be exact maybe there might be schools in the area someone can tell me about

    Do you have any sort of certification? What other shops do you have around?

    Re: Wanting to get into the car audio business

    Im from the area/float around the Metroplex,daily during the week @work,and can tell you,there is not much of a car audio scheme in the Ft.Worth area,other than Best Buys,or Car Toys,that I know of.Most go to Dallas.I would recommend moving towards Dallas,and go to the ATI,and get a certification,and hook up with Bonnie N Clydes off of H.Hines,for a bit,Even part time.There is a really good car audio installer/tech, that knows his stuff.The only other place would be Josephs Car Audio in Mesquite,If you wanted to make the drive.Those guys are a brother/family type business,and are nothing short of just straight up,BA.I go there first if i need anything,or Clydes if in the area.Other than that, its pretty much do it yourself.There are a few little shops here and there, but,They push what they have on the shelves,and to me are not worth my money being spent at.If you go to the ATI,you will get some knowledge of the different types of vehicles,and how to rip out the dashes/doors/panels, and hands on,with a certification.Its in Dallas off of I-35,and Inwood I believe,West.By taking the cert.course, you have the option to be /find a job with a dealership,or go into business for yourself,as a mechanic,or car audio/alarms.That would be what Id do/start at.

    Learn everything possible about car audio and electronics before you even think about owning a business. If you dont, your business will fail, HARD.

    1) Finish high school first;
    2) Terrible time to start a business...wait until the economy recovers, which should be around 2035;
    3) Choose another start-up biz with a larger client-base and more security than car audio.....Ft. Worth prolly could use another "Gentleman's Club."

    Re: Wanting to get into the car audio business

    so you dont know much about car audio but you want to own a audio shop one day? Take a few years to learn, install, work at a shop and see what installing for a living is like. then decide if you want to do it. the end product is great, but personally i dont enjoy climbing into trunks, cutting hands and fingers, working in cramped spaces for a minimal pay.. best bet is to get a job installing or even stocking shelves at a shop and see what its all about. i worked at a small shop for about 2 months and decided i prefer it as a hobby..

    Yes, having a certification when it comes to job hunting is a must, and start personal builds and builds for your buddies, take pictures, to build up a portfolio, that way when someone asks "have you done any installs?" you just take out your book of pictures and hand it to them.
