New System for an inexperience user, help with speaker options?

    Hi there everyone,
Another newbie, just bought my own first car, and looking to put a decent, but not hugely expensive sound system in it. The car is a toyota carib BZ touring model, and I am looking at replacing all the components inside. I'm going to replace the head unit eventually, but at the moment it just has a JVC one from a few years ago, but i'm going to replace speakers first. I'm looking at replacing the front and rear door speakers with the same size speakers, unsure of size as of yet, as haven't got around to measuring them, and am looking at some boschmann speakers, as I can get these for a rather competitive price. I'm thinking of a good set of 6"s in the front doors, and a set of the turbo PR6013T for the rear doors, to add a bit of bass. Are Boschmann a good brand? They seem to get a pretty decent rep over here in NZ, and don't brake the bank either.

But here is my main dilemma. I'm looking for some sort of bassy system for the rear of the car. Now by no means am I wanting a car rattling bass system, I'm not exactly a massive fan of really loud systems, but I want it to be decent enough. Now if i could, i would just go out and buy a sub in a box and be done with it, but unfortunately that isn't an option for me, as i play in a band, and often have to take my gear in my car, which will take up the whole boot including putting rear seats down (Amps and cabs and basses and such), so really dont want to take up room with a sub in a box. So i was thinking my options were to buy a shallow sub ( the ones often used in utes etc), and try and install it in the side of the boot ( I am able to fit speakers, and have friends and family that can help, so that is not big deal), but i would only be able to afford one, and wondered if this would give a strange sound as it would all be coming from one side of the boot? And was looking at a pioneer one. I thought my other option would be to try and find some 6x9s that had a good bass response, now obviously they may not be as good as a sub, but would it be efficient, as i say im more on sound quality and good levels of highs, mids and bass than just overpowering bass. And i was thinking of installing these in the side panels again, or in the hatch door. I was also wondering whether or not any of these options would be bad for the car, as in rattling and such?
I will be buying an amplifier of some sort no matter which option I do.
I was hoping that i could get some help with my issue here, as i have tried googling it and haven't found any good stuff on single subs or having 6x9s in the rear door...
Also if you have any other suggestions, i would love to hear them, and i only have around $500NZD which is around $400USD, so im kind of on a tight budget, but i can get the front speakers for around $220NZD, so have the remaining for an amp/ 6x9 or sub combo.
Sorry for the excessively long post, and thanks again,
    Jack

Welcome to caraudio.com. My ex mother-in-law is from New Zealand. She's Maori. Only one I still talk to from that side of the family. Lol!

Have you thought about maybe an 8 inch sub or maybe a 10 that does well in a small, sealed enclosure? There's a lot of small subwoofers on the market that do well in small spaces and have amazing output. I've never heard of the door speakers you're going to use... Doesn't mean they're bad. Just never heard of them. I'm afraid you're not going to get the output you want out of 6 X 9's.

    Hi there,
Thanks, yeah us Kiwis are pretty friendly haha.
Anyway, i think the small compact ones were what i was meaning by the ones for the trucks/utes. Are they good to fit into the back side panels of the boot, or do they need a little box? Also are under seat subs any good?
    Cheers again

There's a lot of folks on here that will give you better advice than me on this subject. But it's 5:50 in the morning here and everyone is sleeping.... Haha. Give it a little bit and you'll have plenty of answers. I'm thinking under the seat might be bit small as well... Also being that you have a $400 budget not quite sure what shipping is going to do you either.
