New and confuse about installing amp and sub

I hope nobody gets mad about this question but I am a newbie trying to install his first amp and sub-woofer.

First of all, I'm not looking for the best sound system I just want to have something a little better than the stock speakers on my 2001 Toyota Corolla.

So, today I whent to Walmart I bougth a cheap Dual 500w sub-woofer:

12" Single 4 ohm SD Series Subwoofer
    Power Handling:
    Peak: 500 watts
    RMS: 175 watts
    Impedance: 4 ohm
    Polypropylene Cone
Black foam surround for high excursion
    Stamped steel frame
    Rubber magnet boot
    2" Voice Coil
    Sensitivity: 88 dB
    Frequency Response: 28-125 Hz

And this Subwoofer I plan to use it with a Jensen LXA600 I have sited in my garage:

The Jensen LXA600 power amplifier is a four-
channel 600-watt total system power automotive
    amplifier. The LXA600 includes:

    RCA inputs
    High level inputs
Continuously variable low pass or high
    pass crossover
    Bass boost feature
    Remote turn on/off
Electronic protection circuitry to protect the
amplifier from short circuit, DC offset and
    thermal overload
    Unique, super-efficient heat sink design
    4 x 75 watts RMS per channel
    (4 x 125 watts peak)

    2 x 200 watts RMS bridged into a 4 ohm
    load
Bridgeable design to direct full power to two
    speakers

So, this is what I got and have no idea about how to start the installation. I have been reading all over the net, but I'm getting more confused about everything; ohms, bridges, channel modes, etc. Basically what I want to do is to add the sub-woofer to my car and keeping the stock speaker, but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Can some one provide me a quick guide about adding the amp and sub to my car?

    Thanks

Re: New and confuse about installing amp and sub

If you are hooking up to stock radio you need to get speaker wire from your deck (or perhaps tap off of your rear deck stock speakers) to input into your amp (high level/speaker level input, not the rca inputs).

You will need to run power to the amp, I am sure 8 gauge is more than enough for that amp, you need to run that from the battery, positive lead, to the trunk/amp. Put an inline fuse just after the battery, like 40-60 amp would be fine. Put another fuse before it goes into the amp in the trunk as well. Run a ground from the amp (again 8 gauge should be fine) to ground in the trunk somewhere, find a bolt to bolt the ground to. You will need a remote turn on as well.. that turns the amp on when it gets signal from that wire.. a wire that only gets power when either the key is turned or the radio is turned on. Not sure if your factory deck has a remote turn on lead, can use power antenna lead to sometimes as well.

run speaker wires from amp to subs.. see if your amp has a cross over in it as well, to cut out highs, low pass option.

    Hope that helps a little

Thanks for the reply, this seems like an easy guide to follow. By the way, I'm using this aftermarket receiver Sony Xplod CDX-GT35UW.

In that case, get a set of rca's then from back of radio and input that into the amp instead of line level/speaker level input. You should have a blue remote turn on wire out of the deck too, run that to amp for remote turn on

Re: New and confuse about installing amp and sub

I have only the Sub, but I'am planning to get a sealed box because I read that the sub without a box is not the best option because the sub may get damaged in the back of my car. I'm not sure if that's true, but I don't want to take risks. Also, I decided sealed because as far as i know they tend to be smaller and I need the extra space for my wheelchair.
