Hey everyone, I'm new here and I was hoping for someone to help on what to do with a new audio set up I might be dealing with.
I'm 17 and I know about car audio somewhat (Still learning). I'm looking at new cars because my Mazda 626 crapped out (I guess that happens when your Dad gives you a car with 200,000 miles on it) and I had a 12" Alpine Type-R (Dual 2Ohms, 500W RMS) and a Mono Kenwood amp (500W RMS) in it. It hit really hard and I love the sub and amp. My friend and I installed it to my stock Bose system with a converter, which is a pain in the butt for 2 teens who aren't audio specialists. Haha. Luckily, it worked perfectly. It hit so hard for only having one sub. It outdoes most of my friends 2 12's :D Anyway, now that I'm looking for new cars, I will probably have to sell my current amp and sub combo because I know most aftermarket car stereos/speakers won't run at 2ohms. I'm hoping to get the same sub with dual 4ohms instead, but I found a car I like that has a 2 channel amp in it. I need help with what would be the correct set up. I would also like to refer to this forum in case I find a car with an amp in it already.
My questions are:
1) Is it possible to ditch the current amp in the car and put in a 2 channel Kenwood amp and keep my mono amp and then run one off the other? I know it's really bad to try and hook up two amps together but I'm not sure if this is the case since both amps would be of the same brand.
2) I've been looking for a 3 channel amp so I could run the 2 speakers and the sub off of it, but they are impossible to find it seems like. Especially one with the correct RMS wattage needed to power the sub. Same with 4 or 5 channel amps. They all don't have enough power for my sub. Does anyone know of an amp that could do between 400W and 600W RMS that could power my sub and the speakers?
I can't think of any other questions but I'm totally open for any ideas that people have and actually would work. Keep in mind, I'm a teen buying this stuff on my own so money is kind of an issue. I'm just extremely confused on what to do and I would love some help from audio experts. :)
