    Icon32 Building the BEST system

I am building a new system for my car now that I finally graduted from college and got my first job with some money in my pocket and would welcome some advice.
I drive a 1995 Honda Civic LX with a Sony CDX-MP70 (CD/MP3 Receiver with CD Changer Controls). Which I am thining about changing to another deck if I need too. Maybe an Eclipse or Alpine or something. I really don't know too much about car stereo brands and componets. I am not going to say the sky is the limit, but I would spend in the area of $2500 for everthing. I am flexable and may spend more. Here is the system I am thinking about buying but could use some abvice about brands, componets, extras, etc. Any info will help.

Amps: Phoenix Gold Ti 1000.2 (250x2) at 4 ohms
    Phoenix Gold Ti 500.4 (75x4)
Subs: 2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 10 VQ (4 ohms)
    Enclosure: Q-Logic QL-C1UHC210
    Speakers
Front: Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Component Speakers
Rear: JBL Power P652 2-Way Speakers
Capacitor: Lightning Audio Strike LSD10DT-03 (1.0 Farad)

I am also going to buy some Dynamat for my trunk and a dual amp wiring kit (RF CP4DCKs). This is all I can think I might need. Let me know what you think and what you would change or add on.

Way to help out the new guy BIA BIA....

OGButch, I would say, don't jump the gun and buy anything yet... There are so many options and one thing that will frustrate you is that everyones favorite brands are the best and the stuff they don't like its automaticly crap...

I would say spend a few weeks reading afew different forums and researching differet options.
Go to a few places and look at what you can upclose and listen to it... Don't event talk to the salesman.
Not all salesmen are bad, but far to many are... Most will try to sell you whatever they make the best profits on...
    If you want some recomendations
    Here are my opinions...
    [Bold]Headunits[/Bold]
Sony, Their designs have been Kinda ugly the last few years, but not really bad, everyone hates them because they are popular like Microsoft.
I had one in my ride for the last 4 or 5 years and I bought one for my g/f ride... Both have been perfect...
I have recently bought a Kenwood DVD headunit. I went with Kenwood as everyone said Sony was such crap I wanted to see how much better, another well
know name brand would be... Its not... While the Kenwood does have some newer features, its performance is about the same.
    Kenwood
    Alpine
    Eclipse
Above are prety much the only ones I'd own
    Amps,
    HiFonics
    Phoenix Gold
    DEI-VIper
    Cadence
    American Bass
    RE
    Componets
    Eclipse
    MB Quart
    Some Polks
    Alpine
    CDT
    Image Dynamics

    Subs
    Resonant Engineering
    Adire
    Kicker
    Magnum
    JL Audio
Above is a list of brands that I have had or know many people to have and had good luck with.
I'm not saying they are the best or there are not other good brands out there...
LIke I said above, take your time and do some research. A lot of this is opinionated...

No problem... Thats what this place is all about...

Everyone will prolly flame you for going with JL as most people here are way into SPL, then SQ... Not that there is anything wrong with that at all. I know I love SPL too...

But, I say do some research, see if you can listen to some...If you like them, go for them. I don't think they are bad, depending on what you want them for.

I think JLs are excellent for SQ systems and not the best thing for SPL systems and are a tad pricey...

I know there is no such thing as a SQ sub or a DB/SPL sub, but they way I see it... JL subs sound really nice but, will not handle tons of power like a lot of the other subs you see mentioned here and other places...
You try to put several KWatts to JLs they'll prolly fry...

I have 3 JL 12W6s that sound really good. I can turn then up almost full blast and I get little to no distortion.
However, they just don't go loud enough for what I want... They are plenty loud for daily listening, but not loud enought to show off or compete with (In my opinion)

I was thinking about $130 to $200 for the sub box, and I can use a good portion of the civics trunk for my entire system.

I don't care if people give me a hard time about the system pieces I am thinking about. It's not like I have already bought them and will feel buyers remorse because someone tells me thay are crap. It's better to hear this stuff now rather than later.
I just want to get a great system if I am going to spend around $2500. I want to make sure all the components are compatable and everything will fit in my car and soung good. I am more interested in sound quality than just plain loud, but if possible both are prefered. I was planning on getting two 10 inch subs with DVC (4 ohms) and pushing them with a amp of about 1000 watts (250x2 at 4 ohms). I was hopping that would be enough. Then an amp for the 4 speakers. Either a 200 watt or 300 watt. My civic has 4x40 air conditioning and I could use some extra sound when I get moving in the summer.
    Any advice on speaker brannds?

As for listening to the equipment, I will have to try and find somewhere that has quality car stereo's. I live in the boonies and am new to this area. Time to grad the yellow pages I guess.

    Thanks again for the info

    OGButch

Well, rule out 12's and 15's if you want to go ported, unless you get a single 12'.

I am putting in 4 RE8s in my trunk as soon as I sell my 15'' HC. Then once I get more money together, and if I like the setup, i'm going with 8 RE8s.

    Re: Building the BEST system

another suggestion for a head unit would be a pioneer premier 750. they have three sets of 6v rca outputs which would be nice for multiple amps but the eclipse and alpine are very good as well. another sub fro good sq is the IDmax and put it in a ported box and would have a nice blend of sq and spl. i also have a small trunk and this sub is perfect because it can bump and it sounds good. get the dual 2 ohm version with a tsunami 1800t which is 900 watts rms at 4 ohms or if you decide to upgrade to 2 idmax's you got 1800 watts @ 2 ohms. i think it's already been mentioned but the magnum d2's are nice subs as well.

    Re: Building the BEST system

when u have a 2500$ budget dont look into the w7. But what Ngsm said sounds like a very nice system. Maybe add a Optima Red or Yellow.

I agree the system you listed compared to the one NGSM listed, wouldnt get as loud or even sound as good as Ngsm's.
