    high preoutputs for hu

Aite, i just wanna i guess get this stuff clarified

eclipse hus, have 8v preouts, ni know that u gotta find amps that are able to have the input sensitivity up to the 8v in order to use the hu or the amp (whichever is right if any) to its full potential.

if that's true, what happens if the amp can only handle up to 4V or 6V input sensitivity?

    Re: high preoutputs for hu

Then I would imagine you wouldnt be able to turn you h/u up very high. Thats the only down fall I can see. So if you have any speakers running off your h/u then you might as well be screwing yourself becuase they wont be able to get loud enogh to go over what is running off the amp. But if you have another amp running something else, then im sure you can adjust it out somehow.

I've heard of folks using 8V HU's with 4V input amps with no problems. Worst case is you'd need to reduce the voltage a bit, but it'll probly be OK. If you get into trouble, we can help you figure something out.

I have seen very few people complain that their amps cannot take the 8 volts. Usually, I have seen people mention a 2:1 or 3:1 overlap. I have run 8 volt eclipse decks with eclipse and JL amps..no problems. The local shop has sold/installed many using a variety of amps without any issues.

    Re: high preoutputs for hu

FYI, arc amps have an indication that they can only take up to 2V or something. For me, I screw the stupid numbering on them amps and adjust according to what I hear. Amp mftrs will tell you to do the same anyhow.

8V = balanced line..well, that's the general idea that I got so far..

I DID hear that amps should be able to take such high voltages too, and could cause a damage to the amp. There are devices out there that can reduce the voltage.

by the time the signal reaches the Amps it will not be 8 volts anymore, you lose some signal in the RCAs

Wrong. RCA losses are near zero (no current). However, the voltage spec on HU outputs is at full volume, and since the volume control is logarithmic it drops off fast. My "2 volt" outputs actually measure 0.4 volts at 3/4 volume.

lol um then in much of the installs and much of the headunits I have installed must have all ******, it does lose some signal espically when your driving 15+ feet

You are basing this on mathematics only. You are not taking into account what an RCA wire rubbing up against bare metal and road noise factor into the "equation"...

There is signal loss from HU to amp, unless you are going to install your amp right by your passenger's feet so they can kick it.

Also, I doubt the signal loss is audible unless you run the RCA with your power wire.
