Amp recieving power but not making power?

My MTX 6500d is getting power but not sending any to the sub, it made sound for about 5 mins and then stoped, but it was still on. I checked the subs wiring and there wired to 4 ohms, so im not sending it into protection or anything. Any ideas as to what i could be?

its not going into protection mod? the amp is working fine? Sounds like a problem with ur RCA's....or a feature on ur HU is changed thats causing the subs to not play?

Re: Amp recieving power but not making power?

RCA's hardly ever burn up you probably blew the amp. i have burned up crappy RCA's but a blown amp wont necesarrily always gointo protection unless theres a short in the amp if you simply blew the output it wont go into protection. I just did that on an audibahn 3201t. Thank god i didnt tear out my RCA's cause they are a pain to fish through my dash.

From my limited experience i would think its the amp over the RCA's

Re: Amp recieving power but not making power?

I re pluged in the RCAs, the amp is getting power....here are some more fact to this i guess you could say:

Played music @4ohms for about 5 mins, then it quit with the music still playing and the amp still on.

The amp comes on, the red led on top comes on also.

I checked the rcas everywere, there good.

Ok, Is there anyway to check that the RCAs are putting out any power what so ever? Should i try pluging the RCAs into a different preout on the back of the HU? I have 3 of them...dunno if that would work. Im gonna try hooking it up to a friends car and im also gonna hook up a different amp in my car to see what happends. Thanks for the help so far guys.

Re: Amp recieving power but not making power?

just switch amps first and see if it s your amp or not. I dont know that amp and what the red LED on that one means but if its in protection you got a problem which you need to address. Put your amp into anotehr car that already works and see if thats it. If the red LED doesnt come on you got a wiring issue with your setup.
