Re: how big of wire do i need

I'm currently running about 900 watts rms with just 8 gauge. Nothing cuts out, and my subs slam just the same as before I had added the (360 rms) 4 chan amp. I think wiring is slightly overrated for boasting rights.

either that or you're not running a true 900 rms.

bigger wiring is for higher current. higher current is for higher power.

when you have too small of wire pulling too much current, it causes the wire to get hot and this is how fires start

    x2 on probably not a true 900watts

if you have a welding supply store nearby, see if they have 0 welding cable. usually its pretty cheap and is great wire IMO. i use it and it only cost about $35 for 25 feet or $50 for 50ft

doesnt matter if its rated to something, if its not getting the right amount of current, its not doing the power

1/0 welding wire shouldnt cost ya more than $35 for a 20 foot run

Id say 2 gauge is more than plenty. Ive run almost 1500rms through 4 gauge sunquest wire before no problems
