Front and Back Stock Door Speakers Not Playing!

My girlfriend has a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville and when she got it her door speakers were not working but once in a while it would kick on for a small amount of time when she would hit a hard bump. The speakers were connected to a 4 Channel Lanzar and I thought that amp might have been blown so i changed it out for a Hertz EP-4 Channel amp..When I turn the car on the amplifier light does not come on. So from this I am assuming there is a short somewhere but would it be from the battery wire or from the remote? Or am I totally crazy altogether? Any help would be appreciated

Also want to add I used a polarity tester and touched every wire and they all turned blue except the Battery wire which turned red and when I touched the remote wire, the blue light came on but a ton less bright..unfortunately I feel like I have something that I dont understand..so would these responses make sense?

Get yourself a DMM and start testing wires. I installed an amp the other day, everything was brand new. After everything was done, amp wouldnt turn on. Sure enough i started checking wires and there was no voltage through the main power wire. You wouldnt think a brand new fuse would be blown, but somehow it was, and didnt even look blown.

Moral of that story - get yourself a DMM. 20 bucks at walmart. They are one of the best tools to get.

How do you use a DMM exactly?

So with a DMM if you measure in volts, the Power, ground, and remote should read relatively the same? Sorry if this is a stupid question
