New to systems; need advice

I'm gonna ask for a system from my parents for christmas and I want to know what's a good amp and subs?

I'm looking at Rockford Fosgate Punch 800.2 and I'm wondering what would be some good subs for that? I'm wanting about 12" subs.

What type of budget are we looking at?<br />What are type of music do you listen to?<br />Do you like more SPL or more SQ from a system?<br />How mechanically enclined are you?
