1. ## Head Unit And Amp Combination ???????

Hey guys i have a pair of 6x9's i just got and i was wondering if its possible to amp up the 6x9's while still haveing them wired to the head unit, so u dont have to mess with splitters and more RCA's, and plus u would get the power from the amp and the head unit at the same time, thus saveing you a little money on amp power too. It was just something i was thinking of and wanted to know from anyone if this would work or not. Any info would be great.

thanks, SteveO

No. You can't run speakers from the hu and an amp at the same time.

3. agreed. things just don't work that way

4. ## Re: Head Unit And Amp Combination ???????

if anything run them from the amp only

5. ## Re: Head Unit And Amp Combination ???????

Have you guys tried this at all, or are u just makein assumptions ????

6. ## Re: Head Unit And Amp Combination ???????

This is fact. I don't have to try wiring my 4 guage unfused power wire to my car's chassis to know that that'll bring about negative results.

Think of it this way. Basically, all any speaker-driving device does is supply power to a speaker in a particular waveform. The only difference between a 25w source and a 250w source is the voltage that it can sustain (I know wattage is what's being measured, but if the impedence is given, the voltage being applied actually controls the wattage, since amperage is a function of voltage and resistance, and wattage is a function of amperage and voltage - thus, sustainable voltage is the controlling variable).

Now that this is established, would you hook a 9v and an AA battery up to the same motor? The 9v would bleed power into the aa, and other such nastiness. Now, lets' say that the 9v and AA batteries are both complex electronic components...
Ya see what I'm getting at? Nastiness will ensue, no matter how you figure it.
