Help! Need some input from anyone using w7

I recently upgraded from Kappa Perfect 12.1's to W7 12's with a JL 1000/1 monoblock to run them. I need to get some ideas on some of the controls/gains for the amp and speaker setup. I'm driving a '02 Focus and i need some setup info for that type of smaller car. I also need to know if there are any wiring configs i can do to make these W7's run to their max potential. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

the 12W7 is only available in SVC 3ohm so just wire it + to + and - to -. nothing special. the amp will adjust its rail voltage and whala, optimal power at 3ohm.

for the crossover, low pass it to where u think it sounds good. its user preference right there.

for gains, it really depends on the headunit's voltage. u have to find that one out yourself. not hard to do. turn the gain all the way down, turn the volume on the headunit 3/4th of the way up and slowly turn the gain up until it sounds like the w7 is distorting too much (hard to believe ). back down on the gain a tad bit when u hear something nasty or when the sub reaches it's peak excursion

Thanks for the input GSteg! I did that after work tonight and it sounded pretty good, but now i have a different problem. hen i did that, my ground wire started looking like a toaster wire and smoked a little. it burned the plastic around it but the amp still works. What the hell happened there?

how big is your power and ground wire?

they are both 4 guage. My friend told me that since i turned the gain down on my amp, that the speakers was trying to draw too much current from the amp, hence the reason why it caused the ground wire to start heating up. But i'm not too sure on anything
