if built just right and for a specific sub they can sound awesome....but most of them have poor freq. response and a horrible peak(the pre fab ones at least)......

yeh, terrible freq. response, low amount of SQ. If built correctly the results are basically to have a smaller box with large SPL.

    most reason used:
    -Largest SPL output
-Don't know they are bad style of box type

not necisarly a bad style of box, because if made CORRECTLY they can be loud, and still not huge. dual reflex bandpass can actualy yeild more SPL. But in bandpass, your not going to get to much SQ no matter what. I have to say though, ive heard bandpass's that maintain a pleasing amount of "daily driver" SQ.

Well IMO, i'd never use one.... I'd never attempt to make one.... If made correctly (how accurate is correctly, like 99% perfect?).... It's just many people who know boxes shy away from bandpass in general.

very true. SUPPOSIDLY theres a 6dB increase vs. a sealed (while ported is only 3dB increase). I doubt it though, cause then ude see all those competitors using bandpass's..

POSSIBLY a 6dB and 3dB gain respecitvely AT and near the tuning of the box, compared to the freq. played in a sealed. Not throughout the whole freq ranges. The reason you don't see many competitors using bandpass is lack of space. You can fit more drivers and such into a ported box setup, then you can a bandpass

Only if the driver being used is built to handle the stress the box will put on it. The box has to be built perfectly as well...well thought out and designed exactly to spec. Sometimes lots of trial and error will occur.

In my opinion there is one and only one reason people buy bandpass boxes.....Because they look sweet.

my friend has that single 10" type s in a bandpass box thing that alpine is selling. he said his main reason in buying it is because the sub is covered and no way of damaging it by something in the trunk hitting it. so i guess people that arent really concerned about how great it sounds and just want some thump but still want complete access to the trunk...something like that wouldn't be a bad idea.
