who knows how to tint windows?

I was planning on getting the windows tinted on my car..nothing illegal but i think it would look alot better. I was planning on going to the place today and getting it done. I called the 3m place and they told me that it is 300 bucks to get it done. Now i have the money but i really dont feel like paying 3 hundred bucks for something that takes an hour or so to do and 20 dollars in materials.. I meen window tinters shouldnt get doctors salary. anyways i was considering doin it myself. Has anyone ever tried. I dont want it to look ghetto since the car is pretty new. What do you guys think?

Get a done at a shop. There's way better prices out there.

read the instructions on box, and give it a shot...you just have to get the bubbles out, so make sure you have a good squeegee of some kind

i was willing to pay as much as 200 bucks to get it done right. But 300 is out of control. Everyone i have asked have told me 150-175 to get them done..Im handy but i dont know if I have the patience to tint my windows properly. I dont even know where to get the film from. i have saw some at walmart but its prob shyt./

trust me...get it done at a reputable shop. You get what you pay for. Tinting isn't science, but it does take skill to get it perfect.

tinting does not take an hour for a whole car. when i got my car tinted it took like 3 hours and i paid $175. It have been 1 year and no bubbles or nothing.

It's not as hard as it seems. You might want to get your rear window done professionally, but here's how you do it in a nutshell:

1) Get a spray bottle (windex or something) and put a little dish soap in it, and fill it up with water.

2) Get 2 pieces of tape, and separate the tint from the backing a little bit to determine which side the adhesive is facing.

3) Roll down the window about an inch, and spray down the outside of the window really well with the soap water, and roll out the tint on it, with the adhesive side facing out.

4) Using a razor blade, cut along the top of the window, and down the sides.

5) Roll the window up, and cut the rest of the sides, and then cut the bottom of the tint, to where you have about 1" of extra film below the bottom of the window

6) The piece of tint should match the window, except it has some extra on the bottom. Set it aside and thoroughly clean the inside of the window. Spray it with the soap water and use a razor blade to make sure nothing's stuck to the window.

7) Spray the side of your car with the soap water and stick the tint to it. Using a piece of tape on each side of a corner, like you did earlier, separate the tint from the backing, and get someone else to spray the tint as you're pulling it apart to keep it from sticking to itself.

8) Roll the window down down about 1", and spray it thoroughly, then stick the tint to the inside of the window. Spray the tint with plenty of the soap water. Line the top of the tint up with the top of the window. Using a squeegee, press down along the top of the window to remove any air bubbles, etc.

9) Roll the window up, and tuck the bottom into the gasket. After it is tucked, squeegee the hell out of the window. Keep it wet with the soap water-- the wetter, the better. Get all the water and bubbles out.

10) Wrap a 6" putty knife with a lint-free cloth, and press down firmly on the tint, and push any remaining water or air out from under the tint. Apply plenty of pressure.

Tinting somewhat flat windows is pretty easy but curved windows like the back one are hard as hell to get done right.

i used to window tint... you have to have mad patcience for it.. and it takes about 2-4 hours for ur average 4 dr car...
i do a 4 door car for 199.00

Ive done it, I got a Pre-cut window tint kit off ebay..... It was great for the first week, Then it started to peel/bubble like crazy. Just get it done @ a shop , get a lifetime warrenty and you will never have to deal with tint again

A heat gun is also useful, but if u havet done it before and want it perfect then take it to a good shop
