Finally picked up a clamp meter and tested my zx...

*Disclaimer: This test is done using the methods and equipment familiar to me. Results can and will vary from vehicle to vehicle.*

Well, I finally stopped slacking and picked up a clamp meter so I can see my ACTUAL power.

Now, these test results are all done in my truck, and they vary between sealed up on the dash metering, and headrest metering. The car is on for all these tests, and RPM's were set at 2000.

*Equipment is my zx2500, DD 9510, 2 everstart maxx batteries and a 200 amp alt*
*My DCR load is 1 ohm (dual 2 ohm coils wired in parallel)*

First off, I started with sealed up testing.

After tweaking and tuning, and finding the right frequency..

    88.8 volts x 27.1 amps= 2406 watts, with a nasty impedence rise of 3.2 ohms!!

Now for headrest (door open) testing (i must note that at this time the sub and car were pretty hot, which can explain the slight drop in power. That and the car acts differently when the door is opened)

    96.1 volts x 24.3 amps= 2335 watts

Now here's the scary part....rising to 3.9 ohms!!!

Now I knew I was getting some pretty good power out of the amp, even with my impedence rise, but I wasn't expecting quite that much. This means that my amp is doing d*mn near its 2 ohm rated power at 4 OHMS!!

Now those are some real world power results.

    excessive amperage alternator.

Voltage drops with the car on go to about 13.5 or so at worst usually. Never below 13.

No, they're not real world power results. Those are real world APPARENT power measured in volt amps (VA) not watts. I guess you didn't learn anything the last time we had this discussion and I doubt you will learn anything again.

All I will say is that you didn't measure the real power your amp is putting out in watts... I'm sorry that you believe this is true and I'm sorry that it's not what you think it is.

Also, it's kind of ironic that you're so excited about the impedance rise. The larger the rise in impedance, the farther skewed your results are. If you would take some time to read about the imaginary and real part of power in an AC circuit, you would see what I'm talking about.

I didn't see you b*tching in hicks power thread or anyone elses who used the same process that I do. So just drop it.

lol. yea im thinking of dropping my 20.1 for a zx2500. i would like to get my power at a higher load. 20.1 is rock solid. however i dont wanna drop my load much more since i plan on getting another mag down the line.

At lower impedences the 20.1 really shines.

At 1 ohm the zx2500 would destroy it, IMO.

Re: Finally picked up a clamp meter and tested my zx...

Hicks tested away from large impedance spikes which makes his much more accurate than yours.

And it's not *****ing -- it's informing people who do not know the difference. People will read this thinking the amp will do 2400watts at 4 ohms and that is just NOT the case at all. It's OK if you want to remain ignorant but don't force it on other people.

Please look it up anywhere before trying to tell me that I'm only posting this because it's you doing it. I don't give a ******* who you are or what team you're on or any of that bullshit. What I do care about is getting correct information out. Look up something called the power factor. Just look it up and read about it. Read about how it is used to measure power (in watts) in AC circuits. Read why it is used and then look back on the testing you did.

I'm sorry that my impedence rise is greater than hicks? I can't control that. And relatively speaking my rise is better than hicks. He went from .35 nominal to 1.3 ohms reactive.

Every test I did, no matter the voltage and amperage output, was always around 3.1-3.2 ohms. There was no way around it.

And yes, it is b*tching. Nobody cared about it in the last thread, and nobody is going to care about it now. You didn't say **** in hicks thread, or any other person's threads. This is the 2nd one of mine that you crapped on. You said it doesn't matter what the impedence rise is, though the higher the rise, the more scewed. Hick's rise was 4x while mine was only 3x. Yet you keep your mouth shut?

This is the way I (and tons of other people) test in their vehicle. If you don't like the way I do it, start your own thread showing the way you would do it.

Until then, STFU and leave my thread alone.
