Wow, I might have to go digging through all our old laptops here and see if I can find a working motherboard. This is getting the gears turning.

I love seeing the crazy/cool stuff everyone is doing. I've said it before, we just don't see this kinda thing up here.

The screen you guys put in, does it just connect with a VGA cable? I don't know much about touch screens.

That is wicked man. I don't even have my sub box built, or a monoblock purchased yet, and I'm already pumped for this. I think we have an old blown up laptop kicking around here too. I just hope the motherboard is ok.

This thing would look sweet in the stock location in my Dodge too. With the new dashes it will be mounted up high, nice and easy to get at.

Sounds like you got a prettygood plan going there. Sadly I got all my components and got the computer up and running but have yet to get the stuff moved from my room and into the truck yet. If I remember correctly I think there were a few installs in Dodge trucks over on MP3car.com not sure if they were as new as yours but I think there might have been at least one. I think most of them were putting the actual computer guts down in the lower portion of the center seat/console.

Oh what a good idea. My old truck ('04) had lots of room in the lower console cubby for beer, but this one is kinda shallow and useless, atleast so I thought. LOL.

Too perfect. Then I just have to take a look at the truck and decide what space I want to sacrafice for the HU. Too bad I just went out and bought the mounting kit for the Alpine. LOL. What can you do.

    Re: Carputer 101

I need some carpc help I have a Clarion VRX935VD. How do I connect the video/audio to the brain? It has RCA in, do they make VGA to RCA converter (let me clarify before someone says search LOL all of the searches only show up with a vga to the 3 color connections. I believe i only have the single yellow input)? Audio should be easy as it would just be RCA to RCA.

    Thanks

    will this work?

well there are fancy boxes to convert VGA into Composite(the yellow rca you have) but VGA to RGB can be done easiest since its the same thing. Does your mobo have an composite out or an SVideo out you could use instead of converting?

btw composite will have some serious ****** video quality just thought id throw that out there

edit: i see your link, you could try it. i never have seen that before

How do you connect your carputer to the screen? Are you using an add-on screen rather than an indash player? Video quality isn't a huge concern as I have a dvd player in the car already, i'm more interested in sound quality. I may have to rethink the computer I was going to use, not enough options on it.

mine was connected just like you would connect at your home on your desktop using VGA . its just a 7" touchscreen monitor. the touch panel plugs in via USB port.

    Re: Carputer 101

can this HU be used in conjuntion with a carputer setup?
    http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...DAX100&tp=5684
I wanted to know if I connected a carputer to this head unit via usb will I be able to control the carputers music files as well as volume and etc?
I really want to try this carputer thing. I drive a 94 caprice so I have the room to hide this gadget behind the dash or in the center console and etc. my main concern is sound shaping and durablity. I don't want this thing falling apart on me because the bass is to much to handel. Also I don't want to loose a whole lot of sound quality either. I love my music loud and clean. I do belive ther is software that allows you to restore the sound quality of mp3's, wave, accvfiles and etc. I will research that some more. I paln to do my dash over with fiber glass and I plan on using either a 10"-15" touchscreen in the middle of the dash were the ac snd radio are now. I have looked at the product list megalomaniac gave and I decided to swap out a few things. I want to know if they will work.

That deck will not work with the carputer, there is no aux input, and i dont think that usb is meant for hooking up a computer, its meant for just hooking up a slaved storage drive.

durability is fine, as long as you mount everything!(so all the shock isnt hitting it hard)

I am looking at your list, seems like you will be needing a really beefy power supply now since you are now demanding power.

    Re: Carputer 101

I am going to do a elaborate a/v setup and powering everything safley an efficently is my main concern. Here is a breif run down of my A/V setup 16 monitors ranging from 6" to 28" inches. Also a jvc HU along with my Carputer and 2 audio control X6s as well as a clarion EQ. Lastly about a little over 10,000 watts of amplifier power. As I was looking at various electrical parts that I will need for this monster car A/V setup and this little piece of equipment caught my attention and I was wondering if I would benifit from using this http://www.jegs.com/i/Jacobs%20Elect...10064/10002/-1 ?

i really dont see a benefit. your computers powersupply is already voltage regulated, shouldnt make a difference...maybe someone else can elaborate more.

I just wanted to know if there was an upside to using that Accuvolt box with the carputer since I will be running a little more power than I guess most who run carputers. My main concern like I said before is safety then efficencey. I thought maybe that tthe accuvolt would be like extra protection agaiinst power surges or pikes. I am going all out and with this and I woulg be pissed if I over looked one small detail and this s*** goes up in smoke.
