Help, my buddy would like opinions of everyone :)

He's getting a system, and he'd like to know what's the best fit for his vehicle. Here's his options for his 1995 Ford Explorer:

    Amplifier: Memphis PRD1000.1
    http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/produ...cat=&id=66&p=2

    Sub Options:

1)Alphasonik (1 sub of the 800 series subs, not sure which)
    http://www.alphasonik.com/800.html

    2)Memphis PR (2 subs)
    http://www.memphiscaraudio.com/produ...cat=&id=56&p=2

    3)Infinity Series subs (2 subs)
    http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=1587251

Which would be the best for that amp? Any opinions on that amplifier? How stable is that amp? Would a 1 OHM load draw to much of the battery and alternator? Thanks guys..

I have a ton of those Memphis PR subs and Amps Sold through my shop...for the money you cant beat them. The amps are stout and do rated power, and the subs are decently loud.

Thanks guys... It seems pretty close between the Alpha and the Memphis subs.

How is Alphasonik subs? Or at least that sub. It says it's 800/900w RMS.

Also that amp is 1000w at 1 OHM, I heard it eats a lot off the battery and alternator. Any truth to that? Better not to run off of 1 OHM?

get the memphis subs and amp, and 1000 watts should do ok on a stock electrical system, just to make sure you might wanna get a better battery and do the big 3 upgrade.

He's got a Red Top battery (because it's an SUV). SUV (Ford Explorer) have bigger alternators? I think.. not to sure though.

So if he gets the Memphis subs, run at 2 OHMS for 600w RMS to them, but if he gets the alphasonik, run it at 1 OHM for 1000w RMS?

He should be fine with the red top and the factory altenator. If he does get some dimming of the lights then do the big3. Should help some, if still a problem then look into getting a bigger altenator.

Re: Help, my buddy would like opinions of everyone :)

i would get the dvc version of the memphis subs and run em at 1 ohm, just turn down the gains so they dont see the full 500 watts each.

Springy.....quantify what you are saying when you recommend that. If he takes the volume dial to full output, the amp is still going to make full power. The amp will make full power regardless of where the gains are set when the volume dial on the cd player is taken to the max. By your very words in your post, you are inferring that the gain control on the amp is a volume setting, it is most definitely not. The only way to get less watts, turn down the volume, decrease the input voltage or change the load. The quickest way to start damaging a speaker, incorrectly set the gain.

we have already argued about this many times, if you have the gains turned all the way down, you wont get 1000 watts at full volume. im sorry, thats just not how it works. so in your mind what does the gain control do? and you say that the only way to decrease wattage is to decrease input voltage by turning down the volume, but the gain knob does the exact same thing it increases/decreases input voltage depending on your head units preout voltage to deliver the correct amount of power to your subs.

X2 thats why when u have ure gains all the way down u can crank ure volume and still no bass.
