need opinions on this setup!

Im mostly looking for SQ. this will be put into an 02 Subaru Impreza WRX

Stock HU
MB Quart RSC 213 5.25" Separates
Alpine MRP-F200 4/3/2 Amp
Image Dynamics IDQ12 D4 V2 Subwoofer
JBL BP600.1 Mono Class-D Amp

wire the sub in parallel, and wanted the stock HU because it has a 6 disc changer and i want to keep the stock look. also going to be protecting all this w/ the Viper 500 security system. whats everybody think?

that is a very nice setup. headunit u shouldn't worry about as much though.

watch out on the gains of that amp. IDQ's isn't gonna take 700 watts RMS (amp is a little underrated) for long.

keeping the stock hu coz of the 6 disc changer and stock look

also, im keeping the stock rear speakers too

if u like the stock headunits, then keep it. aftermarket headunits have extra features. now is it worth the money to get some extra features?

A good system stars with a good source. Im not saying that you cant get decent sound out of a stock radio, but for an SQ setup a stock hu and, lets say, and eclipse hu are two different worlds...

back to your setup...sounds really nice...let me know what you think of the quart speakers...im looking into getting some.

The factory will be less likely to be stolen, but the aftermarket will offer more features. BTW if ur using factory how are you getting signal to your amplifiers?

i know u like that cd changer w/stock hu, but u need an after market hu to gain real sq....

i recommend one of the best brands for hu - eclipse!

since when did headunits have different sound quality? at a flat response, all headunits are so **** close, u won't even hear a difference with music. they may seem worse because the way it sounds with an aftermarket speaker (unamped), but if you're going for sound quality, who needs the internal amp? what you want is an external processor to fine tune your system.

signal voltage, sound processing, eq tuning, stage setting, etc. etc. etc...

there are many features that come with good HU's that factory units cant compete with...from an SQ p.o.v.

signal voltage can be obtain using a line driver. external sound processors are usually better than the one that the headunits have. and external equalizer can be used which u can get more band. if speakers are properly installed right, no need for stage setting. heck, if people who competes in SQ used those headunits with those features, then they wouldn't need to spend money on external stuff right?

correct...but for a daily driver it would be easier and cheaper to purchase everything in a head unit rather than buying everything separately. Its true that all the processors and eq's and all that stuff will give you better sound and more tuning flexibility, but I dont see anything like that mentioned anywhere in scsi's post.

Im not saying that you cant do it either way, but which would be easier...a good source, or a bunch of stereo equipment that just clutters your car that you drive everyday? How many SQ comps do you go to and see people running a factory HU?
