    Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

I have heard its okay from a few people, but also hear its a big no-no all the time....whats the verdict??? I would like to mount it to my box as the back of the seats in my car arent' as convient for it as my old car, and i don't want it in front of the sub cause then i can't set my golf bag there....Could it handle a area similar to the spare tire well (extra jack well), or would it overheat....?

Just put some rubber rings between the amp and the box, that's what i'm doing so as few others. Never had a problem.

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

I have been running my amp on my box for more than a year....so far so good. I have never heard of anyone saying that it damage/broke their amp. I think "those few people" have probably never tried and just talking BS or they just have no clue

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

yea I want to know about this also....cause I know its ok for your typical best buy setup and such...but once you near 145-150 is it still ok... I can just see all those vibrations being bad for solder joints, and all those little resistors and capacitors in your amp....??

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

The logic someone on another forum applied to this (and he did own a caraudio business and i think he knew his stuff pretty well) was that the amp is built to take bumps and vibrations, as it is mounted in a car... i know my old amp mounted upside down to my back deck took a lot of bumps (went over a curb at ~20-30, sideways, and then 10 feet into the snow, still don't know how i didnt roll, break wheel of axle, or how i managed to get out as quick as i did lol).

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

You will get tons more vibration from just driving around than you will from the box. If the box is well built it sould be one of the most resonance free parts of the car. Also figure that the vibrations from the sub ar being radiated out to the rest of the car anyway. As long as it is solidly mounted, it really doesn't matter where you put it.

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

i would have to say no because you dont want your sub to vibrate, even w/ the rings it still will get unessary vibration

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

its okay if done right. you probably need to add a spacer of some sort between the amp and the box because the spacer will absorb some of the vibration and hence reduce the vibrating components of the amp.

Re: Mounting amp to sub box=bad???

I'll throw the little foam stickey round things that came with the amp on the underneath of the mounts.....i think they might be meant for the top of the screw hole but i already scratched that part up pretty good anyways....

ive had my amp mounted on my box for 2-3yrs now and havent had a problem. The only way i see it being a problem is if your using cheaply made equipment.

I've always abided by the rule: if there's any doubt, don't take a chance.

Personally, I think amps mounted on boxes look tacky to begin with. Furthermore, it cuts the work of a would-be thief roughly in half. And lastly, it's not worth the risk if you have nicer equipment.

I would've never mounted something like my DLS A6 to a box. Y'never know what could happen...
