How To Tune my head unit and amp

I'm new to car audio and am a bit confused as to what all of the settings on my amp and head unit do. I've got an alpine 7892 and a lower end alpine v12 amp. There are gobs of different settings including low pass filters and high pass filters, etc... I'm not an audio major and don't know what this stuff means. I'd love to have a guide as to what this stuff does. Alpine has poor documentation in my opinion. Could someone steer me in the right direction on how to figure out about what all the doo-dads do on my equipment?

High Pass Filters are used to send higher pitched sounds to your interior speakers. High Pass meaning that high hertz (sp?) pass through and low hertz get blocked out, giving your speakers better sound quality because the bass isnt blowing everything out.

Low Pass Filters are just the opposite, they cut out high sounds and let the low sounds through.

On your sub amp you want to set the low pass filter...I dont know much about alpine so I wont go into detail. Your HU might have high pass filters that you want to set for your speakers inside the car. Just tinker with your settings until you find something that fits *your* preferred sound.

Oh yeah, those things are also called crossovers...

setting your low pass will send your speakers everything below waht you set it to, while setting your high pass filter will send them everythigna bove what you set it to..
a full pass x-over will sned everythign in between your two settings.
