MTX 6500D

How well would a MTX 6500D push 1 Kicker S12L7?

Any other amps you'd recommend to push this 1 kicker?

It'll be running at 4 Ohms...

Do you have the dual 4 ohm or dual 2 ohm L7 model?
If you have the dual 4 ohm and run it at 2 ohms the 500D will give it just under 1000WRMS, which will plenty for the L7.
I'm not sure if the amp can handle a 1 ohm load, even though it's spec'd @ 2 ohms, you could run the dual 2 ohm model at 1 ohm. If it can handle 1 ohm, which it very well may, you'll have power to spare and adjust the gain accordingly.

I'm buying the 4 Ohm DVC model...

...Would it be practical to run it at 4 Ohms?

The specs say that at 12.5VDC it'll put out 250x1 at 4 Ohms, and at 14.4VDC it'll put out 450x1 at 4 Ohms...

I'm under the impression that running the speaker with 4 Ohms is better than 2 or 1...

So, 4 Ohm 12" Kicker L7 running off an amp at 4 Ohms pushing 450WRMS?....That's good, no?

The speaker maxes at 750...and the amp will push 775WRMS at 2 Ohms...:shrugs: Pretty clueless here...

Practical ? Not really considering you can't run it at 4ohm with your sub. Your sub has dual 4ohm voice coils. You can either run it at 2ohm or 8ohm. Unless you want to buy another one and put one on each coil. Which could be a waste of money.
Impedence makes no difference as far as sound goes. If an amp can handle a lower impedence go for it. You will gain alot of power.

Just wire the the voice coils parallel for a 2ohm load and bump away The sub will handle it without a problem.

And one more question jaylee where did you get those power ratings.

    Power 12.5 VDC
2 Ohm Load 500 w x 1
4 Ohm Load 250 w x 1

    Power 14.4 VDC
2 Ohm Load 775 w x 1
4 Ohm Load 450 w x 1

Straight from the mtx website. Granted they are usually underated. But these are the rated specs.
http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/amplifiers/thunder6500d.cfm

    I don't get it...

Is it talking about the speaker's Ohms when it says..

    2 Ohm Load 775 w x 1
4 Ohm Load 450 w x 1

So, if I had a 4 Ohm speaker, the amp would pull 450WRMS? But, I could wire it to 2 Ohms?...****...I'm confused

Okay the kicker L7's are dual voice coils. Each voice coil is 4ohms. What this means is that There are two sets of terminals on the L7. There are two positive terminals. And two negative terminals. A set for each voice coil. If you connect the positive terminals together, and the negative terminals together. Run a lead from a negative terminal to the negative terminal of the amp. Run a lead from a positive terminal to the positive terminal of the amp. This is called wiring in parallel. With dual 4ohm voice coils. You will have a 2ohm mono load.

    Straight from the kicker website.
All models have dual voice coils for ultimate wiring flexibility - 2-Ohm DVC models let you run at 1 or 4 Ohms, 4-Ohm DVC models allow 2-Ohm or 8-Ohm operation.

Check out the carsound magazine review of the MTX 500D amp.
They tested 984WRMS @ 2 ohms to a reactive load with 14V available.
Compared to the rest of their tested class D amps it is a very high quality amp and extremely underrated.
