We carry quite a few lines here at the shop.... but we see nearly every make and model 12v audio you can think of...from pyle to ID to Boston to supa-chrome audiobahn, old-school Rockford or Orion to walmart VR3 amps. I see it all, day in...day out.

Mainstream, underground, good, bad, questionable...I see a shitload of random stuff show up here in the shop.

Any ways. I have seen a pretty regular trend in regard to glue joints on some subs in the past few years.

We bench-test everything that comes in the shop, whether we are buying it second hand, or installing it for a customer.

2 mainstream companies tend to stick out for about 30-50% of the subs we see with failed glue joints. That is to say....nearly half of the used subs we see from these 2 companies have failed glue joints.

Usually the glue fails on the surround landing. And when I say 'fails', I mean literately half the surround has come unglued from the frame. The glue gets soft. It looks like these mainstream companies are using a glue roughly equal to hot-glue to hold their surrounds or even spiders to the frames. On a hot day you can actually peal the surround/spiders up with your finger nail!!!!!!


I just feel that its sad.

I won't say a brand names now, but if others comment and say they have seen similar ****-ups from certain mainstream lines...I have pics to show major glue failures.
From what I have seen, the glue usually makes it JUST LONG ENOUGH to get out of the 1yr warranty range.

I'm planning to run them active soon with the pxa-h800 processor. The amp I have now is the Rockford Fosgate 500X (Rockford Fosgate Punch 500X 62.5W x 4 Car Amplifier at Crutchfield.com) So do you think it is enough power to get full potential out of them or will putting more power like with the Sundown amps make a big difference? I heard once you go active, everything is more efficient and also be much more louder? Doesn't take as much power to get loud maybe? Do you think it's a smart move to swap out this old amp and replace with a new school amp with more power? or it won't make much difference at all? I take it the tweeter doesn't need as much power but will 62.5W be enough for the midbass?

Before I update to the current ish, here’s the past build of the tail end of last year:

Figured it’s time to finally tart a build log on muh truck, even though I’m terrible at keeping photo updates…so let’s see. Started working on the truck back in novemeber with ****** weather, so everything was pretty rushed to get a working system installed before the bad weather hit and I lost working in the garage to the folks cars.

Where to start…hmm well after running wire through the truck, the first thing I bought was le equipment from Dave aka la crx:



-DD M80
-DD 9012
-DD CS 6.5

Had Dustin Camb design and build meh a beater box until I had time to mess around with cosmetics in the spring

Also around this time (now December) I came across a great deal on a z120, so I bought that and installed it as well (explorer dash is a ***** that is about .75” of trim too large around the radio bezel to fit a DD



Anywho, trimmed it out and got that ish in:





I was also deadening the whole car with this GT MAT sound deading stuff- not the greatest, but ballin on a budget in a daily beater and 100+ sq ft for 100 bucks will sway a man.







Bought some other small ish for it too like a Kicker EQ for the mids that I have yet to install as well as the mids themselves and an HC 2400 from John






So on the brink of winter I got the sub amp and DD installed then winter hit and I was out messing around in the snow in it (yay 4wd) and had no real time to work on the truck, so this is how it’s looked for the past 5ish months.

He insisted on shipping because he said he has had problems in the past. I understand that totally. Anyway, when the amp arrived I hooked it up to a single 15" @ 2 ohms in my van. I was extremely dissatisfied with the output of the amp @ 2 ohms, and thought well maybe it really needs to be @ 1 ohm to make any power. It was also making a humming noise but I didn't think much of it and I quickly disconnected the amp and hooked back up my usa-100. Fast forward a couple weeks, and my wife got a new car so I took over our suv. I moved all the audio equipment over to the suv and it sounds great. No humming, no engine noise it sounds really good to me. A couple days ago I bought a second 15" sub and I wanted to hear what the amp would sound like @ 1 ohm so I hooked back up the Diamond and I have a loud *** humming sound. I know it's not engine noise because it makes the noise even when the rca's aren't connected although it is quieter, it's still there. Then if I jiggle the rca's the noise gets really loud then quites back down. and on top of that the USA-100 with one sub 2 2 ohms is much, much louder and sounds better than the diamond on 2 subs @ 1ohm.
