is 14"x14"x14" sealed box good for JL 12" w6v2?

Hi, i want a sealed box for my single JL 12"w6v2. According to JL's manual, they recommend a 1.25 cubic foot box, external dimensions of 18"x14"x12.75".

this place is selling a 14"x14"x14" sealed box for $65. if i get it custom made to spec, itll cost me $100. would the 14"x14"x14" box be good for my sub? or would it be better if they made it to spec?

Much cheaper if you made it yourself

if you dont have a saw, have the super techs at depot cut the sizes u need. then invest in a power drill, and some screws, and some type of wood bond, or glue, or sealant.

you can make your own for less than both of those. No one here should be recommending that you get a prefab box.

i agree with him. All u need for to build a box is some screws, wood glue, clamps, power drill and of course the wood. I would definatly invest in some tools for the box building cuz u will definatly use them later on.

If you don't feel confident doing it by yourself, then pay someone else to do it , so you won't pay twice.

BTW you got pretty good stuff in there

The box size you listed would work pretty well. I would suggest building your own. The W6v2s do quite well in a vented enclosure tuned low. Around 30ish or so. If you are dead set on sealed, it is an excellent driver in that application as well. Good choice.

Go with sealed because it is simpler. Vented boxes require more cutting, more gluing, more screwing, and a better chance to miscalculate something, and it requires more math!

Make a rectangular or wedge sealed box. I once found a box shape calculator online; it was java-based on some webpage. It will help to calculate the volume; however you must add the thickness of the wood for the external dimensions.

As long as you use the right amount of airspace (based of the manufacturer's specifications), it will sound fine.
