Box Polyfill?

Well I almost finished the box but my battery died on the drill

YES I know thats a lot of glue and YES thats a lot of screws but o well!

The specs of it is 1.5 and its for the 12 SE. I heard that adding polyfill will help the lower bass hit with out sacrificing the mid/high bass?

First question: is that true?
Second: How much polyfill should I add?

When your enclosure is sumwhat smaller than recommended for your subs, pollyfill or fiberglass slows down the bass waves inside the enclosure. In turn makes the woofer perform like it was in a bigger enclosure. Usually 80% but dont pack it tight.

Yes.. And 80% is true enough but the other way to do polyfil is to loosely(sp?) fill the box to the bottom of the sub.

one screw every 3 or 4 inches is enough man

glad to see you got them box clamps. they work like champs eh? anywho. pack it like 50%, then try 70% then keep going.

he only has ONE 12" SE, not two - so 1.5 should be fine.

one pound per square foot IIRC

for home audio, its 1/2lb per cube....i dont know how much different it'd be for car audio

Here are the instructions copied verbatim from the ACOUSTA-STUF brand polyfill instructions. This is the brand that Partsexpress.com carries.

" For most sealed and vented speakers, .5lb/cuft of enclosure is adequate for damping. Sealed speakers may be loosely stuffed while venting systems should have the walls lined with a layer of fiber(polyfill).

For short transmission lines you should order 1 lb/cuft to have enough fiber to experiment with stuffing density to get proper loading."

I have a 1.25cuft sealed enclosure and i added .75cuft of polyfill to the inside. I loosly packed polyfill onto 4 walls of the enclosure.

Result: Bass hits tighter-cleaner than before.
