The Return of the TL...part deux

Now that I've gotten in touch with the seller, it looks like I can afford to get this thing after all...a possible home for my homeless 15" TC Sounds TC9. It's 9 cubic feet overall, 2.7 cF in the sub chamber. Definitely looks like a quarter wave transmission line. Power will be around 500-750W from a rack amp. Questions are as follows:

    1) Would a transmission line such as this work well in home? I'm a little worried that the tuning is too high at 30Hz, but I'm not sure. I guess I should probably clarify my goals for this setup - 75% rock music, with 20% being rap/hip hop and the other 5% being HT.

    2) If the tuning is alright for home use, how would this box spec out to the TC9+? According to the spec sheet I have from TC, this driver has a pretty low Qts - something that would be good for a pipe system such as this.

Box gurus are welcome to answer.

    diagram of the box here:

depending on the physical dimensions of that enclosure, it may not extend low enough for ht applications but will be fine for your musical preferences. if you have the t/s parameters for you driver, bbp6, and the dimension of that enclosure, i can show you how to model it. well thats if the ratio of exit area to port taper is constant and doesnt gradually increase/decrease.

One of the internal walls is slanted, although by how much I don't know...I'll try to get a detailed plan showing dimensions from the builder. T/S params for my driver are available on TC's website...http://www.tcsounds.com as a pdf for the TC9 series.

baffles in a slot ported enclosure will act like additional resonant devices depending on there positioning. usually its like a regular box. distance from edge of the baffle to the corner x height is the port area, then measure down the center out towards the exit. this only applies if the port area of the "slant board" is the smallest area throughout the entire port length. if there is an area after the "slant board" port/valve that is less than or equal in area, it will become a resonant chamber kinda like a dbr (double chambered reflex).

i'll see what i can do, but with this kind of enclosure...there is some phasing issues that i cannot take into account with the programs i have access to. it'll give you a pretty good idea though. a straight baffle, on the other hand, will be possible.

Re: The Return of the TL...part deux

if you want a low freq monster, design a box with fb=f3=fs and put a slant baffle so that the 1/4 wave line length is = to fb/f3/fs. now with the slant baffle, make sure that if you model the volume before the slant as the vb and slant corner as the port area with entrailing port length measured down center out towards the exit, that its tuned higher or equivalent to the fb/f3/fs/quarter wave.
