1. ## Mounting diameter

Ok guys I have some plans that a friend made up for me. I have some concerns. First lets start by saying the limits to my box was the height(16inches) as well as the depth(12 inches) and the mounting diameter af my driver is 14 inches.

Here is the plans I have:

My question is, on the front where the sub is mounted, what is the minimum amount of space recommended on either side of the sub. Because with these, it has the front being 14.5 inches high and the driver would be 14 of that.

And can someone figure the tuning from these drawings?

bump.

The woofer should be fine regarding the mounting diameter. Just make absolutly sure that you've pre-drilled the mounting holes before you screw her in.

From your images (assuming the wood is 3/4" thick) I come up with:
2.423^3 ft gross
Port area: 29^2 inches
Port length: 33.25"
Port displacement: 0.767^3 ft
1.656^3 ft net tuned to 35.3 hz
Before woofer displacement.

Do you mean how any inches should be above the sub and below and the sides when you're looking at it. I had norton's stereo custom make me my first box for an orion h2 15" and the box was 16" high. Mounting was 15.75 so I had about .12 inches above and below, the sub was mounted in middle of box so sides didn't matter. I'm not quite sure how to figure tuning though. Hope this helps.

5. ## Re: Mounting diameter

How do you calculate port displacement? Do you only add up the volume occupied by the three added port walls?

6. ## Re: Mounting diameter

Wouldnt the port displacement be:

(8.5*14.5*.75)*3 = 277.3125 in^3

277.3125 in^3 = 0.16048 ft^3

Or am I missing something?
And my driver displacement is .08 FT^3

after all displacement

2.423 - .016 - .08 = 2.183

I am new to this guys so feel free to rip it apart!

Not going to rip you apart... LoL

You have to subtract the entire width of the port + port wall displacement. Add 2" to your .75" and go from there.

This only counts for ports that use the enclosure to form the other (3) port walls.

-or in other words-

For slot ports on the end of the box.
