haave you ever worked with a lathe?... not a comon tool for the average joe, but the most custom riings and baffles can come from a lathe

Re: Speaker baffles are so Fing stupid

well, lol if you ever worked with furniture, you would know that not all lathes only turn work on the inside of the bench, but also they have it so that you can turn on the outside of the bench as well. I have made bowls 32" in diameter out of teak and purple heart. turned out really nice. experience in a woodshop benefited me quite a bit when I got into enclosure building. YOu can make baffles so presise for your sub and grill it isnt even funny. using the outer turning capability of a lathe in a wood hobby shop I made a baffle for a 15" sub that had inside grooves for the sub to sit in and so that the grill could be placed inside with precision fit inside diameter, as well to have it set a quarter inch out of the baffle to give it that flush mount design, yet since it was a chrome audiobahn grill, I set it so that the grill was raised just out side of the radious of the front of it. it turned out sharp in the finished product. extreamly clean install on that one. Think out side the box, just because you aint got a lathe, doesnt mean you don't have access to one, make a friend in a cabinet shop it can be very beneficial, or if oyu have a college near by that has a wood shop with classes, sign up. I have made some really nice enclosures, and use alot of tools not commonly found in the basic home garage. I don't own them my self either, I found access through making friends in the right places.

oh and I was talking about his flush mounted tweets and a mid woofer by the way. those are simple to turn on a lathe. He mentioned nothing about 18" subs. just tweets and mids...
