    table saw advice.

well guys... as an amateur box builder
ive been making due with my dads old
tools... ive built 2 boxes so far cutting
everything by hand with either a skill or
circular saw... depending on how brave
    i feel...

anyways... i plan on getting some new
tools for christmas... probably just a
drill, sander maybe my own circular
saw... i dont know... i guess ill find
    out on saturday...

ive pretty much decided that after
christmas i want to get a real table
saw... i think that will help my box
building a lot with both time and
    accuracy...

ive looked on both the sears and
    homedepot websites and it seems
like ~200.00 for a table saw is a good
    price point for my purposes...

but which??? i know squat about
    tools, manufacturers, specs to look
for etc... anyone care to recommend
something that would work for me
~200.00 that wont be a total piece of
    crap...

    thanks.

200, wouldnt get you that much, we have a 350 one in our school along with 2,000 + ones, that 350 one is decent, its not comparable to the more expensive ones, but still are very awsome, i wish i could get one at myhouse, i would spend around 300 and get this one, http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...id=00923560000

    27 inches should be enough

well some have different features, like angles, the width that you can rip, which this one is 27, and includes fence, which most do but is essential, miter gauge for smaller cuts

    Re: table saw advice.

i just found it... i can deal with mounting it to a table of
my own... is it an ok table top table saw??? seems
like a low price... i just dont want to buy something
thats not going to fit my use...

basically i want to start building more boxes for
    people... nothing too serious...

would that be enough saw for me???

    Re: table saw advice.

a table saw is a f**king table saw. MDF isnt that strong of a wood, and any table saw will cut it fine. the advantages of a table saw to a skill are:
-you have that bar to guide you
-you dont use saw horses, so the wood doesnt pinch the blade when the cut nears to the end
-most of them have a nozzle for a vaccum hose so there's less mess

whats probably gonna matter even more than the saw is the blade. but all table saw will provide enough HP to cut MDF.

    IMO
Circ saw> Table saw, unless its an industrial one...but you cant afford that anyways
ever try to rip 48" on a freakin 20" table saw
    Its not fun at all

X2---the one i used was a commercial garde one has a 72" reach on either side of the blade with sliding guides on both sides as well.made making my box very simple.
